faroeviking (6024), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands Dec 5, 2007 Bottle. Pours a pitch black colour with a big creamy nit bubbly light brown well lasting head leaving a good creamy lacing. Lovely aroma of dark bitter chocolate and cocoa with well roasted malt and caramel. Good mouthfeel. The flavour has a nice dark chocolate sweetness with roasted malt, liquorice, roasted caramel and good coffee. Nice well lasting chocolate and coffe finish with a soft roastiness. Great sweet stout......old ale??? timfoolery (482), California, USA Dec 1, 2007 This brew poured a dark brown with medium head. A very thick beer, it’s almost a mix between styles of porter and stout, only very rich and malty smooth. There were tastes of licorice and slight nuttiness. Very, very excellent beer, but expensive! $4 for a 12oz bottle. You’ve gotta taste this one once, just for the unique flavor! DTM (541), Winters, California, USA Dec 1, 2007 Very good beer!! Smooth on the palate and chocolate dominates the flavor. Smelled a little like black licorice to me. Very unique beer which stands out from the rest. ShawnMalloy (119), Auburn, Massachusetts, USA Nov 23, 2007 Medium bodied yet black in color. Hints of chocolate, caramel and coffee. Smooth going down. No complaints. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA Nov 23, 2007 Black pour with a tan ring of bubbles. Roasted malt and nuts, bittersweet chocolate, prunes, and coffee. Not as viscous as advertised. Woody, burnt oats, malt, raisins, barley, weak coffee, and just a little bit of smoke. I expected a stout with the name and look, but got a very good old ale instead. Fukito (604), Buenos Aires, Argentina Nov 23, 2007 Bottle from Cornelius, Edinburgh, november 07. Dark opaque color with a medium beige head. Deep roasty flavor with some dark caramel/ burnt sugar notes. Ends with a nice raisiny/ bitterwseet nut flavor. Some vinous notes too. Medium to full palate with quite sparkling carbonatation and a coating, bittersweet aftertaste. Raisiny, burnt sugar, rummy aroma. Nice, sweet old ale/ foreign export stout. beerdad (74), Kansas, USA Nov 21, 2007 This is one of the few black ales i’ve tried. Have to say was impressed. The label states viscous chocolatey roasty. That’s not far off. You can taste the toasted hops, with true chocolate flavor in the background. Dark, rich and enjoyable. Driftwood6 (214), USA Nov 17, 2007 On tap at Map Room, Chicago. Has the musty, malty flavor of an old ale-- but almost could pass for a stout. I didn’t originally know the style, and couldn’t decide if it was an English stout or some kind of weak schwartzbier. Of course-- an old ale! Worth a try, but I would rather have something a little maltier and less roasted next time.
