JulienHuxley (166), Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada Aug 6, 2009 Updated: Aug 8, 2009Aromas of molasses, coffee. Sweet well rounded taste with a bitter finish that quickly cuts out the rich syrupy sugar. Bejaaamin (110), London, Ontario, Canada Jul 29, 2009 This strong beer poured out in a deep dark red. Beautifully bitter, and just as sweet, rouded out to perfection. Smells of candied orange peel and tastes of chocolate and caramel(with that little hint of candied peel). The body coats the mouth, and jumps in with a sharp finish. UnholyBrewing (448), Melbourne(Mulgrave), Australia Jul 29, 2009 ...good rating. Poured a very dark brown, with a small tan head, no lacing, but lasted. Nice aromas of roasted coffee, oil, dirty hands, earthen notes, and some mud with water. Had a nice body, good flavor of dark chocolate, and finished very smooth and silky. Was a nice surprise. Good job wankers. Frovigalning (398), , Sweden Jul 29, 2009 It poured a dark liquid with a small brown foam that left some lacing. It had an aroma of chocolate and coffee. It tasted of chocolate, coffee, something burned and a bit bitter. guyinchicago (516), marengo, Illinois, USA Jul 23, 2009 pours a beautiful black with average sized tan head lots of lacing and clinging and meduim body aromas are of chocolate, roasted malts and hops faint though they are, flavors are of the same and of peat and nuts has a wonderful sweet dry finish larsga (2937), Oslo, Norway Jul 20, 2009 Biggish brown lasting head. Opaque black body goes dark brown at edges. Chocolatey toffee aroma with earthy caramelly malty rasiny notes. Very harmonic. Dry-sweetish salty smoky roasty chocolate taste with salmiak licorice notes. Mid-bodied. Very harmonic. Smooth, mild mouthfeel. Perhaps a tad watery. Dry salty chocolate and earth aftertaste. Very nice and dangerously drinkable. Could use slightly more body and hops. (0.33l bottle, Olympen, Oslo.) Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jul 18, 2009 This should be good... poured out a thick black liquid, spotty lacing from the ok sized dark brown cap that keeps a tight lid on the surface. After the first sniff I went straight to the Beerium, retrieved a bottle of Youngs Double Chocolate Stout and tossed it in the fridge so I can compare (Youngs is one of my all time favs). Dry smelling chocolate aromas blended in finely not only with the plumy / figs but also with some hops, a bit of that salty peat smell (faint), a hint of beyond sweet licorice, ample roasted malts, a drop of coffee and leaves the lingering impression of a old wooden garage that has not had a lot of air flow in it. The whole thing is subtle on the nose. The taste is pretty good: lots of roasted malts, zip from the hops, balanced fruitiness that leans a bit to a candied flavour, slight resinous. odd, I’m finding that some sips have a spot where it seems a bit watered down. If I didn’t know this was 8% by reading the label I would have never guessed. Full bodied, smooth, finishes with a coffee bitterness without the coffee... noticed some toffee smells near the bottom of my glass. I really liked it but it was not what I hoped. I’m going to get that bottle of Youngs Double Choc and place it back in the Beerium for another time - to compare these two beers is pointless. xs2500 (90), Mississippi, USA Jul 15, 2009 Flavor is up front and pretty intense. Pours dark almost black color. Aroma is malty with chocolaty undertones. Overall an excellent brew
