Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered.
A superb, rich, full-bodied beer derived from a 1970s homebrewing recipe. Wickedly smooth chocolate dominates the flavour, which is nicely balanced by the bitterness of the hops.

Pours a very dark, nearly black, with faint hints of ruby peeking around the edges. The foam peaks at one finger then falls slowly to a thin soapy cap and ring. A nice webbing of lace is left behind after each sip. Smell; mmmm..chocolate cake, with a little bit of alcohol mixed in. There’s also hints of some dark fruits, as well as a little bit of a smoky quality. Taste; lots of dark chocolate and caramel malts, with a bit of toasted flavor. Some dates and prunes add some nice dark fruity flavors, and that smokiness some through in the flavor. None of the flavors are really overly strong, as a matter of fact they’re a touch on the mellow side, but the finish is nice and long and very smooth. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and a little on the creamy side, with a very smooth carbonation that only helps out in the drinkability department. I enjoyed this much more than I did the version aged in whiskey barrels.

THOUGHTS: The coffee aroma is pleasing but way too light. Nice chocolate and coffee flavors. It also had a very easy drinking palate. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown with an average, tan head that mostly diminished and left just a tad of lace behind. The aroma was mostly mild coffee. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and bitter, while the finishwas moderately wsweet and lightly bitter. It had a medium body that was oily band slightly syrupy with lively carbonation and a sweet finish.

Old Engine Oil is a rich auburn black with a small, dense, firm pink-brown head. The aroma is dry roasted and wooden. The palate is divine-- so smooth and thick! The flavor is of deep rich roast, lightly bittered and slightly chocolate. So damn good!

bottle.dark pour with nice head that quickly dissolves to a very thin covering. very ight aroma of smoke with a touch of sweetness (plum and raisons). a bit of a sour taste at first but warms up in the mouth quickly bringing the fruit. I always welcome this beer in.

33 cl bottle. Thick brown color, short-lived head. Deep coffee stout smell. Definitely stoutish in taste, but some Scots ale smoke character, and, according to their website, some American hops. Heady, yet not alcoholic, just stuffed with dried fruit, coffee, chocolate. Has all the complexity of a young imperial stout, with twice the alcohol of this bonnie brau

Bottle. My first ole ale. Very sweet - porteresque. Enjoyable beer that does remind me of some homebrew in terms of mouthfeel and flatness. Chocolate, a bit winey, with a notable hoppy finish. A good beer.

Bottle:Very enticing initially sweet aroma. Poured thinner than I would have expected from something bearing this name. A bit of a smoke aroma appeared after a short time. Body was sufficiently full, but much less so than I had expected. Started with a sweet taste and developed nicely to some smoky and roasted notes. Good finish. Good beer overall.

Pours dark w. a thin tan head that leaves a very thick lacing. Smell is a bit sour, but promising. Nice sour/bitter taste with a touch of sweetness. And a lightly sour finish. Not at all heavy on the tongue.
