Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered.
A superb, rich, full-bodied beer derived from a 1970s homebrewing recipe. Wickedly smooth chocolate dominates the flavour, which is nicely balanced by the bitterness of the hops.

Bottle. Light brown low but lasting head. Dark red almost black body. Choccolate hops aroma. Relatively sweet choccolote flavor at the beginning, dry hops bitterness at the end. Strangely flat feeling that I cannot quite understand.

330ml bottle bought at Utobeer in London(15.09.2006). Almost black in colour with a brownish head that last for a while. Strong malty aroma with hints dark fruit. Chocolate and dried-fruit flavour. Touch of sourness and some yeast now and then. Nice bitter ending.

Creamy and milky. Lots of chocolate and roasted malts. Reminds me a lot of Guinness on nitro, but with a much richer flavor. A little bit of rasin, but not much. Some hops lightening up the back. Yeah, the body is oily, but smooth. Basically a super flavorful porter. Bit of licorice. Seems to be lacking carbonation at the end. Really tasty and impossible to put down. Generally sweet, but the hops do balance it well. I don’t love licorice or rasin flavors, but this stuff is still really good.

Bottle. Purchased at The Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA. Pours black as motor oil with a large head that dissipates to a nice layer. The scent is malty and rich. The taste is nice balance between sweetness and malt with the feeling of a smoky dark ale. There is a slightly bitter aftertaste that holds some of the smoky malty character of the taste. A tasty ale that is very drinkable and goes down smooth

sampled on tap at Firewaters, AC. black, light carbonation. Aroma is chocolate, roast, some coffee, and smoky. Taste is chocolate, slightly roasty, smoky, with hints of dark fruit and licorice. Nice full body. Very good.

Creamy and adherent head, optimal persistence. Intense black color, much fraught and impenetrable. Complex and soft scent: cacao, roast malt, liquorice, alcohol, smoked wood. Lightly pungent taste, enough lively with equilibrate pricking. Full and soft body, with bitter and acidity in prominence. Harmonious and mellow in mouth, emits notes of wood, braced malt and cacao. Long end, balanced, much soft one. Thanks to mabjork for this beer.

The aroma is of chocolate, hops, and dark fruit. The pour is deep, rich black and the head is tan but small and short lived. There was no lacing. The flavor is sweet with a chocolate liquor like feel and there are notes of dark fruit, molasses, and an alcohol like finish.

Any first impressions?
-A towering head hangs on to the darkest ebony, painting intricate lacing patterns.
-Earth-smeared treacley and peaty allusions create a highly intriguing aroma.
-Wooden dryness offsets the chocolate and molasses, and roasted maltiness unites it all wisely.
-An übersmooth mouthfeel is created, in which the malts slide effortlessly down the gullet, aided by tiny, prickly bubbles, for a perilously drinkable offering.

What if you dig deeper?
-Woody alcohol delicately renders deeper complexity in the finish.
-Blackberry fruitiness forms a delightful shadow over the slick maltiness.
-Hop bitterness is minimal, but ably supports.
-Another very well-crafted brew from Harviestoun; I could easily get used to having their products available close to me.

Bottle; no date.
