Pours pitch black with a tan, quickly disappearing head. Aroma is coffee-ish with sweetness, reminds me of some imperial stouts. Flavor is mainly kinda bitter with some coffee and chocolate underneath. In the bottle it says ’viscous, chocolatey, bitter’ which is basically what this is all about. A good beer nonetheless. Elwood (665), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Jun 6, 2009 11. 2 oz. bottle. Pours black with slight ruby highlights and a decent sized tan head. Pretty good head retention. Nutty aroma with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, raisins, and a slight vinous note. Medium carbonation with a medium-rich mouthfeel. A little bit viscous. Rich roasted malt notes on the palate with coffee, chocolate, and caramel all playing their part. A little earth and walnut in there too. There is a nice touch of bitterness on the back end to balance out the sweetness. A little bit of smoke and peat come out as the beer warms. Medium-long finish with some lingering bitterness on the tongue. Overall, very well put together with just about everything in balance. Quite sessionable as well. tturner (103), , Washington, USA Jun 5, 2009 coffee and bittersweet chocolate. slight transparency overall with a reddish cast. bitter but full bodied.
