Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered.
A superb, rich, full-bodied beer derived from a 1970s homebrewing recipe. Wickedly smooth chocolate dominates the flavour, which is nicely balanced by the bitterness of the hops.

Bottle. Pours nearly black and allows just a few twinkles of deep ruby light to pass when held up against sunlight. Moderate light brown head that lasted beyond mid-glass and left spotty lacing. Pleasant aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is again chocolate with roasted malt and some light coffee as well, especially near the finish. Very smooth with some light hops bitterness at the close. Good one!

sampled on tap at Firewaters, AC. black, light carbonation. Aroma is chocolate, roast, some coffee, and smoky. Taste is chocolate, slightly roasty, smoky, with hints of dark fruit and licorice. Nice full body. Very good.

Nice dark brown color, small tan head.the aroma was pretty decent, malt mild hops with a peaty smell as well.Gotta love the Scotts, what a fine brew. The taste was semi-sweet malty with a mild hop presence, the feal was kind of thick and the after taste was malty sweet and that peaty taste kind of shows up in the after taste as well. You just can't beat a Scotch ale.Bocks might be my choice of fav's but Scotch ales will always be my all time favorite.

Draft - Victroia Gastro Pub - Black, creamy tan head. Deep roasted chocolate and mild coffee aromas lay on soft wafts of toasted dark fruits and pistachio. Hints of citrus pull forward upon warming. Very well balanced flavors of ashy chocolate and cherry fig coffee that ride a moderate citric hop punch. Medium bodied and smooth, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. This one should not be missed. Well made with a nice complexity...

Bottle. Pours on the black side of brown with a small tan head. The aroma is slight molasses with lots of roasted character and burnt fruitiness, maybe a little bit of chocolate, and a distant hint of tobacco. The flavor is a slight burnt acidity at first, followed by a quick burst of dark fruits and a little bit of chocolate. Then it gradually dries out, eventually coming to a fairly bitter, woody finish. Ok.

"Light black" body with a moderate head. Aroma is malt dominated with chocolate, coffee and mainly licorice. Hint of dark fruits in there as well. Flavor is the same, but nothing here is making me want to come back. I thought this was a Porter but whatever.
