Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered.
A superb, rich, full-bodied beer derived from a 1970s homebrewing recipe. Wickedly smooth chocolate dominates the flavour, which is nicely balanced by the bitterness of the hops.

Pours out dark red with minimal head. Aroma is chocolate malt with a hint of merlot smoothness. Thick and chewy definite chocolate malt in the taste, but very smooth as if drinking wine. Does not have a wine bite in the finish, but instead a faint roastiness. Very tasty.

Not a bad beer, but I was expecting thick and dark and...I don’t know, I was just dissappointed.

Very much like a chocolate stout/porter. Strong chocolate malt aroma and flavor with a nice balance of hops on the end. Not necessarily a session beer, but I feel like i can drink this forever.

Very dark brown. Light brown head. Fine bubbles. Dark aroma of licorice, espresso, dried fruit & prunes. Soft, oily feel. Complex flavour of chocolate, roasted coffee, dried fruit, molasses, licorice. Warm, slightly medicinal finish.

Not exactly what I was expecting, but not all together bad. There’s some nice chocolate, licorice, coffee, and even some soft fruit. A nice bit of hops round out a decently balanced beer, but one that doesn’t live up to the name.

33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Black colour, beige head. Aroma of tar, peat, smoke, a bit of caramel. Flavour is hard roasted malts, bitter chocolate, tar, coffee and hoppy bitter finish. Soft carbonation, smooth but watery mouthfeel. Light to medium bodied, still full of flavour. Very nice.

Bottle into a pint glass. The aroma is all coffee and sour soy sauce. The flavor is a hint of sour and coffee - almost like an American stout. Smooth and slick but high carbonation for the style.

330ml bottle from the LCBO. black pour with a small beige head. Aroma is very roasy, and smokey with a touch of soy sauce. Flavour is very roasty, and a touch bitter with a very creamy mouthfeel, the soy sauce flavour is still there, but not a prevalent. A very nice beer, kinda like a cross between a porter, and a very roasty oatmeal stout.
