A superb, rich, full-bodied beer derived from a 1970s homebrewing recipe. Wickedly smooth chocolate dominates the flavour, which is nicely balanced by the bitterness of the hops.

Pours a dark brown but appears black in glass, with big khaki head and good lacing. Big aroma on this with chocolate, molasses, roasted malt, coffee grounds and a smokiness. Taste is big also with dark chocolate and caramel that give it a sweetness first, then dark roasted malt providing a nice charred, bitter coffee flavor. Finishes with a smooth bitterness that lingers. Body is medium-full with a nice creamy mouthfeel and a low carbonation level. Very good porter or old ale (depending on where you get your info). Flavors are very well integrated and balanced nicely. Was surprised how good this was and would like to try other beers from this brewery. ---Jeremy H

Pours dark brown with a persistent creamy head that dictates the creamy mouth feel. Chocolate and dried fruit flavours dominate. There are hints of Christmas cake complete with brandy infusion. The finish is sweet. Very little bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Finally cracked this! Bottle, opaque black, decent dark cream head, ok lace. Aroma is molasses, cookies, bread dough. Taste is light roasty, vanilla, maybe honey? Definitely malty. Palate is smooth, but could be thicker. Finish gets barely dry.
