3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, 330ml. Black in colour with almost no head. Aroma of roasted barley and malt. A fairly burnt taste with barley, oats, roasted malt and a little hoppy citrus. Maybe some chocolate notes in there with a little imagination. Not a bad brew, but I’d be happier if it had something to balance out the burnt notes that dominate.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
330 ml bottle from Sobeys Liquor, served in a nonic pint glass. Pours like its namesake, looks the part, too, except that motor oil doesn’t have a head of light mocha that’s bubbly, pearly, maintains like a mofo, and leaves all manner of lace islands. Roasted barley and oats abound on the nose, with espresso, cocoa, nuts, savory soy, buttered cinnamon toast, and hints of black liquorice. Flavor is all kinds of toasty, roasty, and caramelized - bittersweet chocolate, French roast coffee with cream, hazelnuts and peanuts, and oat-and-wheat malted cereal with brown sugar and cinnamon. Rich, chewy body and a lovely aftertaste and gentle warmth with just the right staying power. Pour this into your engine and you’ll purr like a Jaguar all day. A truly delicious old ale that out-stouts stouts. More, please!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours black as used engine oil with mocha head that leaves a bit of lacing.
Nose delivers the "roasty" malt notes. Mouth follows with the "viscous," a smooth, creamy body. At first, the "chocolatey" took a back seat. There was some slight bitterness, but it was difficult to discern whether that was cocoa or hops.
Still, after letting it open up for a few minutes, the next thing I noticed was the empty bottle. It goes down easy, with a touch of caramel. Well balanced.

Very dark brown with a cappuccino head and frothy lacing. Medium creamy body. Roasted malt and dark chocolate on the nose - same plus coffee in the taste. Some caramel sweetness to offset the bitterness, and some red fruit. Nicely balanced, very good beer.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
A derinkability é boa apesar do amargor forte e do álcool presente. O aftertaste é seco e segura o sabor de café. Boa para o inverno e para beber enquanto se come carnes. É pouco equilibrada devido ao amargor e café pronunciados.
