Hinez57 (102), Clinton, Mississippi, USA Apr 16, 2008 Nose is leather, wet hay, vanilla, mild chocolate, coffee, and toffee notes. Quickly disappearing head, very dark brown. Wonderfully complex flavor features everything on the nose with the addition of vinous dark fruit notes. Wonderful mouth feel which is slightly hurt by alcohol. A very nice drinking experience. I actually prefer the regular Old Engine Oil, but this is definatly a little bit more complex beer due to the dark/dried fruits and leather/vanilla notes. yemenmocha (15), Glendale, Arizona, USA Oct 7, 2007 Pours near black, perhaps very very dark brown with brown head.
Nose has a clean, marshmallowy roastiness at first. Start to notice some baking chocolate too after a few whiffs.
On the palate is baker’s chocolate, spirity/alcohol, and a smooth chocolate finish. The chocolate comes across in a dry way - not very sweet.
Finish is a little chalky and alcoholic.
