Ungstrup (11713), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 10, 2004 A black beer with a fine oil brown head. The aroma is sweet and roasted. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted bread. A lovely beer. Papsoe (11076), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jan 2, 2006 (Bottle 33 cl) Almost pitch black with only a vague, reddish hue. Very small - almost absent - beige head. Close to being flat. Aroma of roasted malt, complex almost vinous with a raisiny touch. Lovely, dark lightly burned malty notes. Not too full-bodied with roasted malt, alcohol and licorice. Discreet, dry bitterness. Quite lovely. 020106 omhper (10950), Stockholm, Sweden Apr 7, 2003 Bottled. Dark black, no head. Aroma of dark chocolate. Roasty and very malty with notes of licorice that lingers on into the grassy finish. Another good beer from this brewery. yespr (7833), Copenhagen O, Denmark May 30, 2008 Århus2008. 33 cL bottle. Pours dark brown to black wth a redish glare and a lacing light tan head. Mild chocolate, malty and liqourice aroma. Flavour is roasted malt and liqourice with a light acidic touch. Ends with a liqourice and roasted flavour. Nice one. Oakes (7032), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Sep 16, 2001 Dark chestnut colour; tarry nose, with hints of cherry; Malt accent, but it fades. Like ’old ale light’. With a name like that, I was hoping for more - the flavours are good, they just need a little more heft to put them over.
