Absolutely opaque black colour with a nice brown head. Smells strange almost like apricots, pears, espresso and chocolate. The taste is, as the label says, wickedly smooth. Tastes of chocolate, espresso, mild plums, and burnt malt. Very nice flavour, very nice beer.
bridge (659), Sydney, Australia Jul 5, 2008 Dark, virtually opaque black, with a creamy coffee coloured foam. Liqueur chocolate prominent in the aroma, with a touch of alcohol coming through .On tasting it starts quite mild, but it builds up soon after with a long lasting bitterness that carries on well into the aftertaste. Unfortunately the body is just a little too weak to hold up to all this, with the flavours unsupported. A worthy drop though. fidel (52), Livermore, California, USA Jul 5, 2008 Dark brown, roasted malts, coffee, medicine, dry, finishes slightly sour. kinda thin. The flavor and finish didn’t live up to the appearance. Super cool name!! AgentSteve (600), Livermore, California, USA Jul 4, 2008 Bottle shared by Fidel, pours almost black with a thin tan head. The nose and the flavor are both quite roasted malt, and a bit medicine like. The finish is nice and smokey dry, but overall just O.K. As it warms, it goes a bit sour. Minus a tenth. sja14 (32), Ohio, USA Jul 3, 2008 This is my first "Old Ale." Had on tap at the Bier Garden as the "Stout of the Week." Pours dark brown with a nice head that quickly dissipated with little lacing. Definitely roasted coffee and chocolate malts. Pretty good beer. boto (1191), Granby, Connecticut, USA Jul 1, 2008 11.2oz. bottle: This one pours an opaque, dark brown color. There was a small tan head on it that dropped off quickly. Very little lacing. Some chocolate, coffee and roastiness to the nose. The taste is good. It borders on a full body. Taste is of chocolate malt, some coffee, dark fruits. A hint of bitterness in the finish. Very Nice!
