BossHossBikes (129), Tennessee, USA Mar 7, 2008 Bottle. The pour doesn’t look as black and viscous as the rear label so claims. It is black but thins around the edges to where light easily passes through. The beige head is quickly dissipating. The aroma is a little roasty with notes of chocolate, coffee, and wood. The flavour, at first, seems very porter-like with light cocoa qualities and some robust coffee and roasty qualities as well as a hints of plum. However, as the brew leaves the taste buds, extreme nuttiness hits with subtle sweetness. There was so much sudden nuttiness that it just completely surprised me. After the initial sip, it felt like I ate peanutbutter on a loaf of bread. It was surprising because I didn’t detect a whole lot of this in the aroma. A nice blend of a sweet cocoa, nuts, hints of coffee as well as a slight bitterness of the hops is a nice balance of flavour in the dry finish. I was skeptical at first, reading the rear label. But this is quite enjoyable.
SETANTA (562), Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 3, 2008 very well balanced. bottle. pours black with copper highlights. very thin to no head. aroma is very faint smells mostly of chocolate and smoke. starts with a tingle as to suggest alot of carbonation but the head says otherwise. but urgently turns to a silky chocolate and then a smoky hop flavor that lasts. after the bottle i noticed my mouth was really dry. i dont know what that means so i wrote it. overall i think it would make a great day to day beer.
rcasta (339), El Salvador Nov 27, 2008 Thanks to rcasta. Bottle: Think heavy and oily. Porter, stout and ale all together. Well balanced and nicely crafted.
esta cerveza si esta cargada mjg74 (1869), La Mesa, California, USA Nov 26, 2008 Bottle picked up at Del Cerro Liquor. Slick deep ruby/back color upon pouring. No head to speak of. Aroma is fairly sweet with some intersting fruitiness. Some roasted maltiness as well. Roasted maltiness and some coffee bitterness up front. Finish is of bitter, burnt maltiness.
3Faveryrogue (3), Asslip, Illinois, USA does not count Nov 20, 2008 Opaque thick looking pour with frothy tab head that dissipates quick. Smells of chocolate, malt, licorice, coffee. Very balanced taste, but expected it to be heavier. Kind pd where guiness meets a craft. Medium to thin mouthfeel with clean finish and some drying hop. Roasty. Little sweet. Have had worse. Great drinkability. Not had too many old ales but seems stouty to me. @ $4 an 11.2 oz this will be first and last taste of this one but glad I tried. Butters (574), Temporarily in Nashville, Tennessee, USA Nov 19, 2008 Black pour with brown head. Nose is full of dark roast. Roasty chocolate in the flavor. Medium chewy body with a bitter chocolate finish. Decent beer just not worth the $4 pricetag.
