rob6239 (20), Ontario, Canada Mar 7, 2008 Tried this in bottle. Very dark, but not quite black as I expected and a light brown head. Strong pleasant aroma. Great mix of bitter and sweet and chocolate/nutty tastes.
daknole (533), Plantation, Florida, USA Jul 26, 2008 DELICIOUS. Had at The Pub in Pembroke Pines. Pours a super dark brown color with a tan head. Malty aromas everywhere with driied dark fruit and chocolate. Once the thick and rich malty beer hits your tongue you smile knowing you are drinking a great beer. Some bitterness balances out this beer. Very nice! mjs (427), Finland Jul 22, 2008 (2008-07-18) Deep dark brown. Clear. Medium-sized tan head that disappeared quite quickly. Malts and chocolate in nose. Full oily palate with some carbonation and alcohol. Malts (roasted), chocolate, liquorice and some bitterness. Bitterness increases in aftertaste. Also, roastedness tastes more clearly in long-lasting aftertaste. gilvanblight (322), Windsor, Ontario, Canada Jul 20, 2008 Tick dark pour with a sponge toffee like head. Dark malty scent, something sweet in there as well, reminds me of molasus. Dark Chocolat taste, some nuts. Sticks to the tongue. Nice and Thick, I can see where it gets it’s name. A little too sweet in the finish. FunkyBrewster (110), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 19, 2008 Pours a black with a hint of brown. Nice fluffy tan head. Aroma is very nutty and chocolate with some coffee. A tiny bit of wine like fruitiness to it. Flavor is very malty and chocolate. A nice coffee/espresso note in the finish that made it a little bitter but pleasant and smooth. Nice and full bodied for a black ale. Really good alternative to a standard stout or porter. dwaggs2 (26), Warrensburg, Missouri, USA Jul 18, 2008 Poured black with a tan head. The aroma was of chocolate and coffee. This was an amazing beer that was deep in taste and worth every penny. One of the better beers.
