COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Regular. The bottled version has a separate listing.
Brewed with lager malt and Hersbrücker and Challenger hops. Fermented with a lager yeast, but treated in every other way as a cask ale, save for a week or two of cool conditioning prior to release.
Named after the misty mountain near Pitlochry. Has won numerous awards as a cask conditioned beer, including three times gold winner at the Great British Beer Festival.

On cask at The Caley. Blonde beer with a thin white head. Nice fruit nose with spicy hops. Tastes clean and fresh with some malt and the fruity, peppery hop flavours. Great for a ’lager.’

Cask. Clear pale amber. Some head. Slight malt, slight floral nose. Thick, smooth mouthfeel with hints of honey, malt. Incredibly quaffable with a floral bitter finish. Very nice.

Cask at the BlackFriar at Blackfriars. Clear light golden colour, fine white head with fine lace. Sweet citric hop nose with a touch of grapefruit, fresh slightly fizzy mouthfeel. Very quaffable pint, with a slight steely finish. Not bad.

[Gravity cask at Chippenham Beer Festival] Gold, thin off-white head, slight fizz. Straw, grass & honey. Sweet & smooth with a dry finish. Thought I’d better try as it’s meant to be one of the best examples of the style (and it is better than most lagers), but at the end of the day I don’t like the style much, even good ones like this.

27 April 2011, cask. light gold, clear, no bubbles. gorgeous nose for a lager! lots of cloral notes, like tiny wild flowers. there is a coppery malt background. med body , mostly flat and heavy. odd body for a lager. nicely soft, floral hop taste w/ slight coppery malt notes. nice. odd for a lager but nice enough.

cask @ redlight redlight. Spicy hops on the nose with feint musty notes. Pours golden blonde with a thick white head. Nice malty flavor upfront with some spicy grassy hops and dry finish. It is a great cask ale but I think I would appreciate it more as a lager with typical lager carbonation. But its still a great session.

Cask at Paradiso Georgetown. Bright golden color, tiny white head. Aroma of lemon lime. Taste is like a typical lager, nothing too exciting.

This was a crisp refreshing lager beer. It’s a quality product from a brewer that has a respectable portfolio of beers. This is way better than most lagers brewed in the UK. The website informs us that Schiehallion is a mountain whose “misty swirls of early morning air” is the inspiration for the beer. Sorry but if andsled wants lager that tastes of air there’s always Coors light. Luckily Schiehallion is much better than air.

Cask (handpump) at the White Horse on Parsons Green on 4 August 2006. Surprised to find I’d not rated this before. Pale golden colour. OK, with some citrus, but mouthfeel was a bit dull. Not in great condition. Flagged for re-rate.
