COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottled.
Rich, dark and silky smooth, this jet-black beer with a tan-coloured head is an absolute delight. Drink with rich stews and game at room temperature in winter, or be daring and lightly chill it during the warmer months.

Cask at CBC, London on 12th April 2013. Dark ruby-black with thin off-white foam. Roasty aroma; rich roastiness in-mouth with smoky touches. Tangy, smoky finish with roastiness, on a zingy mouthfeel and medium body.

Cask at CBC Clerkenwell, London during the Birthday Celebration of Jack & Leighton - thanks to Colin for sharing. Pours clear brown with a fine, tan cream head. Nice roasty malt nose. Light to medium sweet flavor with moderate roast, dry cocoa and dark bread. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Good condition. Light bitter earth in the finish, faintly tangy, with more dark malts, light baking cocoa. Good stout.

Cask at the Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell, 13/04/13. Mid black with a thin tan head that clears to a film. Nose is light roast malt, paper, toffee. Taste comprises dark malts, molasses, treacle toffee, hint of tea bags. Medium bodied with fine carbonation, dry finish. Ok stout - not too exciting though!

Cask @ CBC Clerkenwell. Cheers to Colin for the pour. Deep brown, absolutely no head whatsoever. The aroma’s of chocolate-covered roast nut. A bit of cake batter. Some toast. The taste toasty dark malts. A hint of zippy blackberry jam. Light metallic tang. Mild lactose and chocolate. Light body, sort of subdued palate. Overall, OK.

Pint at CBC Clerkenwell shared by Colin. This was quite bland for a stout and probably the beer with the least character of the day. Little in the way of roastwd malts. Even less coffee notes. Really not much going on here.

Cask (gravity) - Norwich Beer Festival 2011. Bubbly tan head - lasting, loose & medium sized; opaque brown body. Aroma of rabbit cage with roasted malts beneath. Roasted malt, yeast, straw/hay & hints of coffee on the tongue. Some smoke runs throughout. Medium body, soft palate texture, lingering dryish finish.

On cask at Great British Beer Festival, day 3 on 6 August 2009. Almost black in colour. Dry and roasty. Some milky chocolate. Quite smoky. Not the most full bodied stout but pretty solid and satisfying.

Warning! Early amateur rating! Thinnish palate. Bitterish start and a smoky finish. Not much inbetween. Not fond of bitter/smoke combinations. 2.4

Opaque black stout, tidy tan head. Smooth and semi dry palate. Tangy dark malts with a little roast and a pronounced fruity tang. Bitter and roasty finish. Really quite fruity but the late bitterness is a bit much.
