COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A lovely dark beer that’s on the lighter side of the porter style. All the flavours are there – chocolate, liquorice, deep-roasted coffee – but without the heaviness that normally confines darker beers to chilly winter nights.
Silver Supreme Champion, SIBA National Beer Competition 2014

Huddersfield Beer Festival. Very dark red. The liquorice in this is dominant and provides the ale with a sweet nose and sweeter taste.

Gravity at GBBF 2014. Poured a dark, murky brown, with a scummy beige head. Aroma of dark malt, molasses and earth. Fairly light mouth feel. Caramel flavours, with some grain and hay coming through. Finish was coffee, tar and toffee.

Cask, cocoa and light sour wine nose, creamy body with ashy and tart fruit notes, interesting but not quite ’there’ yet.

Cask at The Brewers Arms, Lewes, East Sussex. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Roasty, malty, coffee aroma. Tastes similar, roasty, malty, coffee, some chocolate too. Very tasty porter indeed.

Cask at Draft House. Black, small bubbly off-white head, no lacing. Aroma is liquorice, oily, shoe polish. Body is light, smooth, low carbonation. Taste - thin roasted barley, semisweet, under-ripe banana skin, bubblegum, watery ashy finish. The ashy finish rescues this one. Too sweet and watery for me, just didn’t push my buttons.

Cask conditioned at Banbury Beer Fest ’14. Black with tan head. Full on deeply roasted malt flavours, some bitter chocolate, liquorice, tarry notes. There is a fruity sweetness, fructose note coming through for the finish. Good stuff.
