Rich deep brown coloured body with some cola coloured glows at the bottom and a nice, single one centimetre tall lighter brown, very soapy head. Aroma of pale malt, a touch of prunes and raisins and a decent amount of earth - not too much exciting going on there. Medium-bodied; Strong nutty flavour of cashews, walnuts, pecans and peanuts with a little caramel and raisin sweetness, a touch of earth and a little bitterness at the end. Aftertaste shows a light earthiness, but a bunch of pit fruit and raisin sweetness with a little metallic twang at the end. Overall, a nice beer with a strong flavour of earth and pitted fruits, but nothing harsh or unusual and a good taste from a local brewery that isn’t easy to find on the mainland, if at all! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from the Liqour Collection in Honolulu, Hawaii (Oahu) on 10-December-2012 for US$2.25 sampled back home on the mainland in Washington on the other end of this great country on 30-August-2013.

chinchill (2145) - South Carolina, USA - MAY 10, 2013
From 22oz. bottle, Pours with a huge, frothy, light brown head with excellent retention. Beer is dark brown. Nose is nutty, sweet, and malty with some European hops. The flavor is decent, but not as good as the smell. Uses a somewhat darker roast malt than average for style. Has a mild, nutty-earthy-bitter finish. Medium-light bodied with ample carbonation. ABV seems higher than 6% in this interesting, earthy and rather unrefined brown.

Not a bad brown ale. It pours a very dark brown but has almost no carbonation, the head retention is almost non-existant. The beer does does have a nice dry bitter finish following the malty sweetness though.
