22 oz can, though also had a sample on tap at the brewery a few days later. Deep hazy amber with a large but short-lived head. Fruity sweetness with funky Belgian yeast and lightly bitter notes.

Can. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white to light brown, mostly/fully diminishing. Body is medium to dark amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, cookie, nuts, malt syrup), with notes of bubble gum, candy sugar, stewed plums. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, syrupy/watery texture, soft carbonation. A big, dumb, syrupy sweet mess.

22 oz. can from Safeway in Lahaina. Unusual musty aroma from a very hazy orange/brown body with almost no head. Nutty, slightly roasted malt taste along with a juicy pineapple sweetness. The flavor is kind of muddled and disjointed. Leaves a sweet, sugary taste along with a bit of the nut flavor. It gets better as you drink it, but it’s still not very good.

Can from the brewery. Brownish-amber colour. Aroma is phenolic Belgian yeast notes, a bit bubblegummy and definitely dubbel-ish. On the palate, it is quite sweet, with a fair bit of alcohol. Dominated by phenols (esp. bubblegum) and a good dose of malt. I guess the problem is the malt is a bit muddled and indistinct, the hops are noticeable but not balancing, and ultimately I can’t really figure out what I’m drinking or why. As this is their best-seller, I’m apparently in the minority.

On draught at Humpy’s Big Island Alehouse. Fizzy dark amber color. Caramel, plum, and molasses aroma. Taste is citrus, plum, molasses, lightly bitter malt, and dark caramel. Sweet plum finish.

Poured from tap to glass. Golden hue with off white head that dissipated immediately. Aroma is Belgian esters, honey, floral, toffee, fruity. Mouthfeel is great with medium light body and creamy carbonation. Taste is sweet throughout with a slight roasted astringent following and ethanol finish. Overall this is a nice play on a Belgian style.
