Can. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white to light brown, mostly/fully diminishing. Body is medium to dark amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, cookie, nuts, malt syrup), with notes of bubble gum, candy sugar, stewed plums. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, syrupy/watery texture, soft carbonation. A big, dumb, syrupy sweet mess.

22 oz. can from Safeway in Lahaina. Unusual musty aroma from a very hazy orange/brown body with almost no head. Nutty, slightly roasted malt taste along with a juicy pineapple sweetness. The flavor is kind of muddled and disjointed. Leaves a sweet, sugary taste along with a bit of the nut flavor. It gets better as you drink it, but itís still not very good.

Can from the brewery. Brownish-amber colour. Aroma is phenolic Belgian yeast notes, a bit bubblegummy and definitely dubbel-ish. On the palate, it is quite sweet, with a fair bit of alcohol. Dominated by phenols (esp. bubblegum) and a good dose of malt. I guess the problem is the malt is a bit muddled and indistinct, the hops are noticeable but not balancing, and ultimately I canít really figure out what Iím drinking or why. As this is their best-seller, Iím apparently in the minority.

On draught at Humpyís Big Island Alehouse. Fizzy dark amber color. Caramel, plum, and molasses aroma. Taste is citrus, plum, molasses, lightly bitter malt, and dark caramel. Sweet plum finish.

Poured from tap to glass. Golden hue with off white head that dissipated immediately. Aroma is Belgian esters, honey, floral, toffee, fruity. Mouthfeel is great with medium light body and creamy carbonation. Taste is sweet throughout with a slight roasted astringent following and ethanol finish. Overall this is a nice play on a Belgian style.

Bottle from Safeway. Copper and hazy looks attractive. Floral notes with candied nuts. Very dry palate. Not a lot going on here but decent.

Bottle, shared with Parksy and Grippitis. Hazy orange amber, rapidly collapsing head. Tart unripened berries accent yeasty light malts. Dry finish.

Bottle. Bright red, offwhite cream. Berrylike and honeyish aroma with dry spicy and minerally notes. Fullbodied, spakly. Sweet fruity, caramel/dark sugar, dry belgian yeast notes, berries, light wood, aromatic hops. Has a Christmassy feel to it, so certainly hits the spot as winter seasonal. :-)

A Belgian ale in Hawaii...not sure if you can get any further away, but this one hits the spot. Complex aroma of cherries and dark sugar, a little hops. Slightly sweet and malty. Good job ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
