schm1005 (150), Honolulu, Hawaii, USA Jan 30, 2003 Sweet toffee-like aroma. Slight alcohol undertones. Reddish highlights on a black base color with a brown, firmly beaded head. This beer becomes much more flavorful as it warms up. Chocolate flavor with slight burnt toastiness. Alcohol is noticed when swallowing. Lingering malt palate with low hop effect. Yum!
after4ever (1925), Brier, Washington, USA Nov 27, 2008 22. Thanks, Riverside! Jet black. Caramel highlights. Headless, laceless, still. Sharply boozy nose, even after all this time. Some vanilla showing. Watery light body (!). Sweet, sticky mid-palate. Mild finish. Shockingly underdeveloped...may be shot by the hands of time. cbkschubert (1648), Rattlesnake Country, Arizona, USA Oct 28, 2008 22 oz. bottle via trade with kp - I’m not sure how old this bottle is, but since I got it from kp, its got to be a few years old. Pours a clear brown color with a thin light tan head that faded fairly quick. No lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, light chocolate, cola, and dark esters. Suprised to not pick up much oxidation in the aroma. The flavor is quite vinous with light chocolate and roasted malt. There is a tad bit oxidation in the flavor. The flavor and alcohol lingers a bit on the palate. The palate seems a little thin. Overall an enjoyable beer to drink and glad I had the chance to try it. I bet it was really good fresh. Thanks Keith. BlackForestCO (629), Fort Collins and Black Forest, Colorado, USA Feb 29, 2008 Bottle shared by Crosling. Poured a deep brown/black color with a thin tan head that diminished to a ring. Aroma of light chocolate, roasted malt, leather, and hints of dark fruit. The flavor was pretty similar, with a light chocolate malt leading into a roasty middle with undertones of coffee and fruit (I detected berries, but I may be crazy). Full and smooth, not much alcohol apparent. Sort of simple, a bit sweet, but overall it was a solid imperial stout that I am glad I was lucky enough to try. Thanks Nick. AmEricanbrew (1137), Swamp Shreveport, Left Coast, Louisiana, USA Feb 7, 2008 Pitch black with a light brown head. Medium strong smell of mocha-chocolate malts. Smooth oily mouthfeel. Very sweet taste of dark chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Has a chalky flavor on the tongue to finish. Sweet even for an IRS. Not much depth of flavor here, but good in its own right. Alcohol is well hidden. 22406 pineypower (924), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Jan 13, 2008 Thanks to whoever gave me this one, been sitting in the cellar for a while. Pours out black with a tiny brown head. Aroma is of roasted malt, chocolate and slight oxidation due to the age of this bottle. Flavor is complex with a nice thick mouthfeel. Chocolate, roasted malt slight dark fruits. Warming/alcohol finish. Nice
