3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jamestulloch (477) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - APR 28, 2013
Aroma: Bitter coffee, cream and hints of dark chocolate.
Appearance: Ruby body with a thick tan head. No visible carbonation. Great lacing.
Taste: Rich, dark and bitter - a truly delicious Stout. Dark chocolate and espresso flavours. Dry, lingering bitterness.
Palate: Medium body with an oily texture. Light carbonation.
Overall: A nicer, more robust version of Hawkshead’s Brodie’s Prime (despite its lower ABV). One of the brewery’s best beers.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 FaithHealer1 (330) - SCOTLAND - JAN 23, 2013
Cask in North Bar, Leeds. Pours a pitch black, small head. Aroma is great - coffee, chocolate, roasted.malts, oatmeal sweetness. Taste is fairly bitter and dry - coffee, minerals, some bramble, some roasted malts. Thinner body than I’d like, but dry and almost chalky in the finish. Good.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jackl (2596) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 2, 2012
Cask @ CBC Clerkenwell. The pour’s deep brown with a tiny off-white head. The nose is hazlenut and pecan nuttiness. Some smooth chocolate and rich toffee malty aromas. The taste is smooth chocolate, oatmeal, more toffee and light grassy hops. The finish is dry. Pleasingly simple, well-integrated flavors. Creamy mouthfeel. Overall, a really nice stout.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 tombyars (1205) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - AUG 15, 2012
Tasted this stout in the Counting House (JDW) Glasgow in August 2012. cask, handpump dispense. Dull black in colour with a thick pale buff head. Short dusty aroma of burnt toast. Thin, weak mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a rather dilute maltloaf base with weak roast grain and mild coffee notes come up rather short. Dry dusty hops noted in the brief aftertaste. Finish is malty with dry liquorice notes present on the palate. An ok session stout but lacking depth of character.
