Cask at The Waterhouse, Manchester (jdw). Opaque dark reddish brown w/ thin tan head. Aroma is standard stout. Taste is nothing out of the ordinary either but it comes together particularly well. Malty, chocolatey, fruity (cherry), nice lingering bitterness. Well balanced.

Keg at BD ShepBush. Pours black with moderate beige head that stays, some lacing. Aroma of roast malt, coffee, some hops, cocoa. Sweetish dark chocolate then dry roast, ash, hop bitterness. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, softish carb, long dry bitter finish. Strong, really drinkable and satisfying.

Cask at The Hanging Bat, Edinburgh on 17 May. Poured black, with a dense beige head and excellent lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, roasted malt and cocoa. Initial flavours were a little on the sweet side; chocolate and dates, mixed with some coffee. Mouth feel was medium. Finish was treacle, bread and molasses.

Cask from the Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Very dark with just a slight red tinge when held up to the light. Nice creamy lasting head. Very smooth taste with coffee and chocolate. Enjoyable and easy drinking, but lacks depth for me.

On keg at The Hanging Bat. Appearance - opaque black with big crema head. Aroma - roasty and chocolatey. But too cold really to get much more than that. Taste - chocolate, then liquorice, maybe a bit of smoke. Palate - medium bodied with decent texture and a relatively well balanced dry finish. Overall - somewhere between a regular stout style and a dry stout style, I think. Happy to drink it but would like to try it again at room temperature.

Keg at The Hanging Bat. Pours black with a good tan head. Quite light aromas, but roasted coffee and dark chocolate are there. Taste follows through, then a very dry finish. Good quaffing stout.
