Cask by handpump at Counting House, Glasgow - light malt aroma, hazy golden colour with medium off-white head, taste was fruity / citrus, but no bitterness, drying finish

Bottle. Medium copper with fair head and solid lace. Categorized as a Golden Ale but comes across more as a Bitter or ESB. First impressions are of a malty beer with strong woody hop notes. Smooth. Mouth drying. Some floral and herbal notes in the finish with more woodiness in the aftertaste. Imagine a land where brewers tried to outdo each other with subtly, hops malt and skill rather than blandness and temperature.

500ml bottle pours a pale amber color with a finger of white head and a little bit of lacing on the glass. Aroma is light caramel and some floral hops. Taste is light caramel sweetness and a moderate hoppy bitterness in the finish. Quite tasty considering its low alcohol. I found this ale rather refreshing and enjoyable to drink.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 RichardW (868) - Carlisle, Cumbria, ENGLAND - DEC 4, 2011
Bottle, Asda. Dry & hoppy, with a fresh, faintly sulphury aroma. Quite a dark burnished gold/copper colour. Peppery on the tongue, with caramel trace late on. Quite sharp and bitter in the finish and maybe a bit thin even, but, up to Hawkshead’s usual high standards.

Flowery hoppy nose. Amber in colour with a thick white creamy head. Smooth watery body with a little dryness. Moderate sweet, hop, grass, bittersweet grapefruit and juice mix. Leaves the mouth a little ashy. Bitter aftertaste.

Bottle. Actually more copper coloured than gold. Sweet caramel aroma and flavor with lightly floral aromatics, soft fruit accents, medium bitter finish. Better than expected, seeing as I tend to cringe a little at anything with "gold" in the title.
