3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a hazy orange-yellow color with a medium off-white head that diminishes gradually to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, malt and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, dark fruit, oak and resiny hops. The finish is subtle booze and piney hops. Pretty good overall.

This one poured a hazy light orange color with a white head. Big vanilla, and caramel and wood upfront. Taste was similar, lots of oak and vanilla with mild lemon zest notesd too. Solid BA barleywine.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft. The pour is pretty light, more orangish than anything. The aroma is heavy sweet bourbon, warming. The taste is big upfront, very warning. Vanilla tones. A nice bourbon american barleywine.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
GABF 2013. Pours a hazy yellow-orange appearance with no head (first 1/5 appearance I’ve dropped in a long time but it looked plain bad). Caramel, plum, bourbon in the nose. Pretty fucken smooth flavor despite being 12.5 on the booster scale - lots of bourbon, caramel, chocolate, toffee, vanilla, and wood. A bit sweet but overall a chinchillin beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Claires right hook ba barleywine. 12oz pour at the hay... Pours a
deeper shade if caramel toffee brown pour and topped with a thin to
medium off-white head that quickly dissipates... Aroma of vanilla,
bourbon and thick chewy caramel malt to go alongside a dirty
earthiness ... Chewy and boozy with big on caramel and toffee
accentuated malt. Dark fruits surface along with a boozy bitterness.
Thick and very barrel forward. Sweetness gets somewhat medicinal to a
point before some harsh bitter astringency towards the finish.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft sample. Pours a clear copper color with a moderate frothy off-white head that lasted with excellent lacing. Medium to heavy tropical fruit, bourbon and sweet malt aroma. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Full complex bourbon and sweet malt with a long complex finish with a small alcohol bite of long duration. This is a standout brew.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a mostly clear amber colored body with a finger-width, frothy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is caramel and bourbon with some oaky vanilla. There is still a nice citrus hopping in there too. Flavor is similar. Caramel and bourbon up front with oaky vanilla. The hops come out a bit at the end as this finishes with some vanilla-caramel-bourbon and wood that dries with a medium-light bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a fairly full, smooth body and a mod carbonation. Overall, a pretty nice barrel-aged barley wine. Lots of bourbon but enough of a caramel and hop presence to keep it balanced. Nice beer.
