4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Growler shared with Timfoolery. Pours a dark brown. An overwhelming amount of berries on the nose. Tons of berry flavor on the palate too. Could have had a little more body to it. Very good beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at brewpub. Comes to me completely black body. This is basically a beer version of those cheap chocolate liqueur filled candies. The raspberries are there, the thin alcohol is apparent. This is in line with the thin body. Its kind of cool but it isn’t really my thang.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft sample at FoBAB ’12. This was one of my favorites of the festival. Pours near black to black with a small, fine, creamy tan head. The aroma had chocolate, raspberries, lighter bourbon notes, vanilla and hints of cherry. The flavor had big raspberry and cherry notes covered in chocolate. Bourbon, vanilla, caramel add extra dimensions. Everything Bramble should have been and then some. I would love to see this again.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sampled FOBAB ’12 - enjoyed this one last year, never rated it, and made sure I made it back for another try - and am I glad I did. Pours black with (maybe I’m imagining this) some reddish hints on the extremities... Aroma is great, seriously! Roasted malt, burnt sugar, chocolate and this ridiculous level of raspberry - tart and fresh. Flavor is very raspberry forward, but with a great sweet malty backbone to balance the action - chocolate, sweet malts and a slight wood presence here as well. Palate is appropriate for the style. I could easily enjoy this beer on a regular basis - yum!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
FoBAB 2011. Black with a thin beige head. Rich burnt chocolate and molasses. Some red fruit in there with burnt rich malts. Decent, though not as good as the original. As Pete keeps reworking this on his new system I suspect it will rise to be as good as the original Thirsty Ale. 8/3/8/3/15

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at FoBAB 9. Same recipe as at Rock Bottom Chicago, different conditions. Really excited to see this one show back up. Pours intense black with a brown head. Nose is really great. Some vanilla and cocoa, minimal bourbon notes, coconut and a big blast of fresh raspberries. Really great nose with the fruit and beer playing like chocolate dipped raspberries. On tasting, soft tartness and a nice sweetness from the base. More of that Woodford barrel in there, vanilla, light tannins. Creamy texture and just fantastic. Great beer.
