Tap @ Haymarket: Jet black. Swampy, bubbly tan film laced the top forming a semi-chunky collar at the edges. Aroma has a nice roasted malt base & all of a sudden you’re hit with a beautiful mirage of semi-tart raspberry purée drizzled in understated vanilla cream. Lots of dark chocolate, bittersweet seeps its way into the mix with the finish showing the only remnants of mild wood, bourbon, & a slight hint of coconut. It tastes like someone filled a Tootsie Roll with raspberry jammy jams & melted that shit down to a compote. Rich chocolate, burnt toffee, just a hint of roasted malts & charred wood with a strong overcurrent of seedy raspberry jam; hints of tartness transition into a delicate back-end sweetness. Little bit of booze lingers in a berry & dark cocoa finish. Lovely stuff, tasty as hell.

Draught at brewpub. Big bourbon and raspberry to this one. Dark in color. Sticky. Very balanced and a nice mix of flavors.

Draft at 2014 fobab. Smells like lots of barrels. taste comes through as backyard, berries and stout. I’ll go as far as saying that this is better than the BCS fruits. Damn tasty.

Also had this at 2013 fobab. Guess I never rated, but I remember enjoying it more than backyard.

On tap: The aroma consists of big chocolate raspberry, light roasted coffee, and bourbon. It’s a dark brown with minimal orange highlights and a small beige head that quickly fades to a thin ring around the edges of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick dose of chocolate. Moderate-heavy raspberry comes in to play in the middle and mixes with light bourbon and barely a hint of coffee in the finish. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel. Overall, this is about as drinkable Imperial as you can have.

Growler shared with Timfoolery. Pours a dark brown. An overwhelming amount of berries on the nose. Tons of berry flavor on the palate too. Could have had a little more body to it. Very good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at brewpub. Comes to me completely black body. This is basically a beer version of those cheap chocolate liqueur filled candies. The raspberries are there, the thin alcohol is apparent. This is in line with the thin body. Its kind of cool but it isn’t really my thang.

Draft sample at FoBAB ’12. This was one of my favorites of the festival. Pours near black to black with a small, fine, creamy tan head. The aroma had chocolate, raspberries, lighter bourbon notes, vanilla and hints of cherry. The flavor had big raspberry and cherry notes covered in chocolate. Bourbon, vanilla, caramel add extra dimensions. Everything Bramble should have been and then some. I would love to see this again.

Sampled FOBAB ’12 - enjoyed this one last year, never rated it, and made sure I made it back for another try - and am I glad I did. Pours black with (maybe I’m imagining this) some reddish hints on the extremities... Aroma is great, seriously! Roasted malt, burnt sugar, chocolate and this ridiculous level of raspberry - tart and fresh. Flavor is very raspberry forward, but with a great sweet malty backbone to balance the action - chocolate, sweet malts and a slight wood presence here as well. Palate is appropriate for the style. I could easily enjoy this beer on a regular basis - yum!

Fobab. So glad pete brought this back out (rock bottom years). black with a brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of berries - raspberries and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of raspberries, roasted malt, wood, chocolate, and bourbon. Just lovely.
