3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 phaleslu (4431) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 30, 2012
Pour from a growler at Perennial the night before MWBBF- thanks to the Haymarket manager, who shared it with us. Pours a semi-cloudy gold color with a small cream-white head. The aroma has piney, leafy, oniony simcoe character, with some straw and caramel malts. Flavor of pine, citrus, leaves, pale and caramel malts, earth, and onion. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a citrusy, earthy mouthfeel. Good IPA.

Orange-amber with quickly dissipating white head. Nose of juicy mandarin orange, apricot, resin, confectioners sugar. Medium body, slightly sticky, with good carbonation. Tastes of lemongrass, orange zest, apricot, ...cotton candy? As someone who?s tried all of ’em, this is my favorite Haymarket single IPA. As good as any single in the land.

Draft at Haymarket, pours Slighly hazy golden with white head. Classic simcoe aroma pine grapefruit and cat box. Flavors are bright, big juicy citrus character upfront, loads of grapefruit and finishes bitter, with earthy peach peel. Nice refreshing simcoe ipa. Well done.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Newk (299) - - APR 16, 2012
UPDATED: APR 23, 2012 Poured from tap into a pint glass at the brewpub. Pours a dark orange color with a nice and small head.
Very hop forward aromas of pine resin, hops and tropical citrus. While not extremely complex it does everything very well.
medium/full bodied with a real good attack, but it then falls off a bit and thins out. Nice flavors of pine resin and tropical citrus with some fresh hops.
A bit disappointing. Very good nose but it just falls off on the feel.

Draft at Haymarket. Pours a deep gold, hazy with a frothy white head. The nose is nice. Big citrus, juicy and fruity, a bit of cat piss and apricot. Some biscuit malts as well. On tasting, quite bitter, but it works. Crisp and clean, more of the strong hoppy notes. peach/apricot, grapefruit, some floral notes and cat piss. Pretty damn solid IPA, this one.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 pantanap (3153) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 31, 2012
On tap at the source... Pours a hazy orangey cider brown and topped with a soapy white headthat eventually recedes to a thin film around the edges.. aroma of orangey citrus and earth pithiness... Flavors are more if the same with bitter citrus overtones, orangey with a lasting bitter impression on the palate. Medium bodied with good flavor all around. Nicely executed.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 TheAlum (4289) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - MAR 25, 2012
16 oz pour on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich orange amber hue, fiery orange glow fights throughout with touches of haze, and a big frothy whitish head atop that sticks around, thicker layer and laces well overall. Great retention, gorgeous pour. Aromas are a rich grab of citrus, touches of grapefruit and melon mix. Lemons, grass, and florals dance in as it warms a bit more a firm bite of grapefruit clamps on, mixing with biscuits and pale malts, bread. Touches of faint tropical fruit dance a bit. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied preaching some of that "bitey" grapefruit goodness up front. Lemons and florals, more grapefruit. Oranges and mellow sweetness into the middle, pale malts, bread, touches of faint toast. Finish is lingering dryness, citrus, and tropical fruit. Rich grapefruit lingers, mellow juicy fruit, dryness keeps on ringing. Now this is a Haymarket IPA I can get behind.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 HighWine (836) - Whalesbro, Illinois, USA - MAR 23, 2012
Tap flight at the brewery. golden pour with a dense whit head, excellent lacing. Big grassy, Earthy, piney Simcoe nose. Taste is the same; potting soil, sweat socks, and leafy goodness. Medium mouthfeel but slightly oily in the mouth. A real nice tribute to Simcoe.
