3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour from a growler the night before MWBBF at Perennial- thanks to the friendly Haymarket manager who shared it. Pours a cloudy tea color with no head. Aroma of caramel, raisins, brown sugar, and sweet bread. Flavor of caramel, raisins, apples, wood, and earth. Good Belgian yeast character for sure. Light-medium bodied, with medium carbonation and a sweet mouthfeel. Nice dubbel.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap @ the brewpub. Medium amber, slightly hazy. Raisiny sweet aroma and flavour, with a fairly strong spiciness. Metallic note in the finish. With so many other awesome brews in this joint, it’s hard for me to like this more. Plus, at this point in the evening, my powers of perception are admittedly waning....

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft sample. Poured a hazy dark amber color with an average fizzy head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate sweet malt and yeast aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Good caramelized sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet smooth finish of moderate duration. Interesting brew.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the brewpub. Poured a slightly hazy amber brown with a grayish tan head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma was full of spice with some dark grains and a int of dark fruits. Flavor was similar with the same strong spice note with dark grains and bread as well as some dark fruits. The spice note was a bit strong for me.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: FEB 19, 2015 Had at the brewpub. Although I enjoyed this beer it was a bit thin compared to some other dubbels. Didn’t have the spicy warmness of flavor that some dubbels have. Almost a bit too tart? Serving: Tap

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap at the brewpub...A light to medium hazy ugly brown body, just not enticing to me. The head is nice, lots of lacing...The aroma is very sweet, too much candi sugar, sweet plums, yeast, dark fruits, has a weird spicey medicinal finish that is medicinal yet sweet, just don’t get it...The taste is more of the same, too sweet, more yeast and spices that are off. Dark fruits and raisins balance this a little better than the nose.
This is an average dubbel. I probably wouldn’t have it again unless I heard the recipe changed.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a deep ruby-brown colored body with a thin, creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is sweeter caramels, bread, raisin, banana, toast, a light earthy spice, and some candi sugar. Flavor is sweeter and breadier caramels with some brown sugar and a good amount of raisiny plums. A nice, earthy and yeasty spice to balance with a touch of cocoa. Finishes dry with a moderate spicing and light earthy bitterness along with a solid malt sweetness and light, dark fruitiness. Fairly lengthy aftertaste following a medium, smooth body and softer, moderate carbonation. Overall, a solid dubbel. Well balanced with a nice malt and dark fruitiness along with a pleasant earthy and yeasty spicing.
