COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A dark, malty robust porter brewed with cold pressed coffee from Guatemala Puerta Verde beans. The Alvarez family has been producing coffee at Finca Puerta Verde since the end of the 19th century.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a deep colar brown with a medium sized tan head. Big warm toasty roast on the nose, big coffee, warm and full of earth and chocolate. Medium bodied, warm roast with some slow coffee behind it, roast and chocolate. Long slow roasty finish. Super smooth and very easy drinking. Lovely stuff.

Pours a dark chestnut/chocolate brown color that’s nearly opaque with mahogany edges and a two finger dark beige head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Decent retention with sporadic streaks and spots of lace left behind. Slightly smokey, robust dark malt aroma with roasted gourmet coffee bean and lactic cream countered by lighter malt sweetness. Coffee bean dominates the nose but isn’t too forceful with hints of oatmeal, dark cacao, and charred toast. Sweeter dessert-like malts in there as well with some cake, fudge, toffee, caramel and lighter chocolate. Smells really nice with a very nice coffee presence that thankfully doesn’t overpower the other characteristics. Lighter end of medium body with dry, roasted dark malt and coffee bean flavor countered by subtle dark malt sweetness. Not as complex as the aroma hinted at with dry, almost acrid, burnt malt. Charred toast, oatmeal and bittersweet dark chocolate compliment the heavy roast. Lighter than expected and kind of watered down. Also, the sweeter notes that balanced the roast in the nose are somewhat tame. Subtle caramel, toffee and tootsie roll but doesn’t have the luscious dessert/cake-like sweetness that I was expecting. Great coffee flavor but lacks complexity.

Had this under the alias of Cuppa Joe’ Hill Coffee Porter. Coffee laps off the aroma. Good beans quality, dry earthy. Not my favorite but fine. On tap at brewpub.

Taster at Haymarket as Cuppa Joe. Pours an opaque deep brown color with a brown head. Aroma is coffee. Taste is a bit acrid and ashy with coffee bitterness. Medium light body. Medium high carb.

On tap at Haymarket. Poured pretty black with min white head. Aroma of very roasted coffee and smoked malts. Light carb med bod. Roast runs rampant in the taste. Minor bitterness

On tap at Haymarket. Poured black with huge tan head. Very nice fresh coffee aroma with the roasty malt undertones. Light carb med bod. Strong coffee again in the taste and not bitter. Very nice.

On tap, poured into a snifter. The aroma is a mild nutty coffee with a spice and earthy undertone. The aroma mellows quick leaving a light, dry nutty note. It pours a dark, rich cola color with a creamy, dense tan head that leaves lots of lace and has good retention. The taste is a medium high bitter and medium sweet. The texture is creamy with a stickiness to it and a smooth, dense foam carbonation. The full body has hints of coffee, nuts, and light, dark chocolate notes. It finishes with an interesting blend of cola and nutty coffee that clean up quick with a spice aftertaste and notes of lightly cloying coffee that runs medium long and turns to clove and wood by the end.

Draft at Taste the Rarity Pours ruddy black with a tan head. Big coffee aroma, like my kitchen smells when I take a bean a little past second crack, slight burning. Coffee with cream flavor, with a nice bit of mocha sweetness. Fairly one dimensional, but a dimension I sure like.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a rich coffee note with a decent amount of roasted malts and dark grains. Flavor has some earthy chocolate with dark grains and a strong coffee note.
