COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Rive Gauche" Biere De Garde is a French-style farmhouse beer, highly aromatic with clean citrus notes that finishes slightly sweet. From our Drinking & Writing series, Rive Gauche means "Left Bank," the famous bohemian area in Paris where the Lost Generation writers of the 1920’s wrote and drank. It is truly a delicious "moveable feast!"

draft at hay, Pours hazy golden with foamy white head. Aroma is clean, florals, hay, some citrus. Flavrs are pretty clean sweet honey balanced by earthy, floral, and bitter citrus finish. Med body. Sorta good in a clean American way, hopper than normal.

On tap at the brewpub. I definitely wasn’t going to pass this one up once I saw the description. Very sweet beer, can almost get the flowery notes in it. Very easy to drink though, and I would have no trouble drinking this again.

On tap at Haymarket. Pours a hazy orange gold with a near white head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has a good amount of citrus with some backing grain notes. Flavor is similar with a decent amount of citrus backed by a bread note.

Fine for the style, enjoyed at the brewpub. Yeasty, very lacey, a little astringent. A sipper rather than a smoother drinker.

On tap @ the brewpub. Very hazy, light orange amber with a creamy thick white crown. Nice estery yeasty aroma and flavour, fresh juicy pear, something floral (elderflower? I don’t know), light citrus. This was fresh and lively, very enjoyable.

12 ponce glass at the brewpub. A thin off white head on a hazy darker gold beer. A nice floral nose that has yeast, malts, and nice fruit. Pears, and apples. Nice citrus is gentle. Spices float in and out. In the finish the fruit becomes almost sticky. As asvertised this is dry, flowery, too. Citrus hops help bring that about.

16 oz pour on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). An exciting new style, in my opinion, by Pete. Pours a rich well hazed depper darker gold orange hue. Big cakey whitish head sits atop, stays as a firm layer, ok lacing overall remains. Aromas are rose hips, citrusy clementines, rind, and a touch of tartness. Distinct dry yeasty qualitiy, pears, bready and doughy malts, fairly clean on the sweetness level. Lively touch of tartness grows, some grapefruit touches. Initial offers a lovely enveloping dryness up front, touches of tartness, citrus, florals and roses. Gentle lemon. Touches of oranges, much more dry than anticipated. A touch prickly, dry earthy hopping, lingering dry yeasy. Crisp dry bready and cereal malts, touches of mellow fruity sweetness of apple and pear touch, some soft cheese influence into the backend. Lingering yeast, waft of cider. Not bad.. the nose was certainly "On" for me, beer was pretty good and interesting.
