Draft at Haymarket. Definitely not in love with the yeast in this one. Pours black with a dark tan head. Nose is spicy, cloves, peppery and heavily estery. Some cocoa as well. On tasting, it is again very yeast forward. Pepper and chocolate come across, light roast. Toasty and quite odd. I don’t get it at all.

DRAFT at Haymarket Pub on Randolph. Pours almost black with brown head...fades quickly. Malty nose with hints of chocolate and mild coffee along with some spices....not a thick gooey stout but enjoyable...

Kind of a wonky scratch beer. THe spiced stout realy does nothing for my palate.

Small pour on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a deeper blackish hue, dark body and practically opaque through the middle. The edges show just a touch of brownish ruby light. A frothy light brown head dies to a film and laces ok. Aromas are gentle sweetness, oatmeal and roast, a gentle smokey quality with some orange and spice. Dryness, roast, bit of coffee and cocoa. Orange rind and gentle coriander spice. Mellow inviting aromas are a bit contrasting and stand out. Initial is medium bodied, a bit lighter perhaps showing cocoa, some toast and toffee, gentle black malts, and roasty elements. Gentle oatmeal sweetness, kiss of orange and more cocoa. Nutmeg spice really comes on into the backend and finish. Mellow cocoa, gentle roast, toffee and oatmeal, mellow roast and sweetness intermix with touches of Belgian yeast and nutmeg. Pretty well put together, great flavors that work together. Fun beer, guys!

4oz same consumed at haymarket... Pours a mostly opaque solid stout black hue with more brown towards the edges. Top is crowned with a frothy light ran head... Belgian yeasty nose, a little anise, and spices upfront. Rye bread maybe perhaps too... Pumpernickel Belgian yeasty spice flavor to it upfront, chocolate and smooth rolled oats. Semi-sweet and creamy mouthfeel. Spices come into play more and end on an earthy semi-dry note.

Tap at Haymarket in Chicago. Thick dark oily pour with a spotty brown head. Some orange peel, lots of spice, and a bold roasty malty body. Very good.

Draft at Haymarket. Pours black with tan head. Aroma smells like gingerbread. Flavors are gingerbread, orange, nutmeg, vanilla, spicy and mild roast, some chocolate, in finish. Med body. Really enjoy ale spices stout and perfect for the season. Solid.
