This big dark ale is brewed with copious amounts of roasted barley, chocolate malt and oats, then hopped and dry-hopped with loads of Chinook. Flavors and aromas of coffee and chocolate are complimented by citrus and pine. A truly complex and intense brew!

An unusually dry and hoppy strong stout. Black IPA may be an equally valid description. Cocoa powder, coffee grinds. Could use some residual sweetness IMHO but may appeal to devoted hopheads looking for a stout. Hides booze rather well.

A very dry stout, there is plenty of chocolate and moderate richness but I would prefer a less hoppy stout. Not my style. On tap at brewpub.

Tap at Haymarket. Brown-black body, translucent edged. Big thick beige head. Mellow carbonation. Big creamy chocolate roast tones. Luscious, heavy specialty malts. Big brown chocolate. Respectably hopped, more so than some breweries Black IPAs. Solid.

On tap, poured into a small snifter. Aromas of chocolate malt, brownies, oatmeal, some roasted coffee, and a light undertone of fruit (raisin?) late. It pours dark brown-black with a tan, sudsy, dense head with some medium bubbles. It leaves a wispy and bubbly surface and ample lace on the glass. The taste is a medium / medium-high sweet and bitter balance. The beer is thick and oily with a creamy carbonation and a medium-full body. Dark chocolate and coffee are the primary notes with some fig and citrus to go along with oatmeal in the grainy finish. Some bitter chocolate sticks around in the aftertaste which is dry and piney and relatively clean.

draft at brewery, they hyped this one a lot. its ok, just a regular stout, moderate ash, moderate roast, some molasses and sweetness. Its standard.

On tap @ Haymarket. Black in color with a khaki head. Lots of roasted malt, smoke, and coffee grounds. Some earthy hops, pine, and a burnt nuts. There’s a bit of cocoa powder to it as well. Flavor is kind of bitter, chalky, and smokey. Lots of earthy hops, coffee grounds, and roasted malt. Cocoa powder bitterness, subtle molasses sweetness, and some nuts.

Not sure that I like this one. Has a minty coffee flavor and seems like a bad combination. Pours almost black. Had this at haymarket. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
