COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This big dark ale is brewed with copious amounts of roasted barley, chocolate malt and oats, then hopped and dry-hopped with loads of Chinook. Flavors and aromas of coffee and chocolate are complimented by citrus and pine. A truly complex and intense brew!

On tap @ Haymarket. Black in color with a khaki head. Lots of roasted malt, smoke, and coffee grounds. Some earthy hops, pine, and a burnt nuts. There’s a bit of cocoa powder to it as well. Flavor is kind of bitter, chalky, and smokey. Lots of earthy hops, coffee grounds, and roasted malt. Cocoa powder bitterness, subtle molasses sweetness, and some nuts.

Not sure that I like this one. Has a minty coffee flavor and seems like a bad combination. Pours almost black. Had this at haymarket. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at haymarket. From notes. Loads of sweet and bitter chocolate dominate with a hint of dark coffee. Loving this beer.

Draught at the brewpub in Chicago. Pitch black beer with a quite nice beige/brownish head. Malty roasted aroma, chocolate, licorice, cocoa, figs, vanilla, bitter hops, cream notes, some tar. Roasted licorice and soot flavor, hoppy bitterness, caramel, hay, dark chocolate, cocoa, licorice, coffee, grass, some tar. Excellent.

GI Stout Fest 2014. Probably more of an Imperial Black IPA. This one pours a dark brown black with a tan head. Aromas of citrus and pine mostly overtake the nose. Taste is bittersweet but the aftertaste has the roastiness of the malts. Really well done and refreshing among a sea of malty stouts.

Black pour with an espresso head. Bitter aroma full of roast. Bitter flavor at first with lots of roasted malt. Some hops shine through and make this even more bitter. Intense flavor. Hints of nuts. Slightly watery mouth. Lace is present.

Poured black with a tannish head. Smells of a box o chocolates. A little bit of roasted malt and floral hop is in the nose, but chocolate is the dominant one. Taste is pretty similar. The roasted malts aren’t quite as burnt as some other stouts I’ve had, which is good in my book. Heavily influenced by chocolate with a little coffee, molasses and more floral/spicy hop presence. Mouthfeel is a bit light for the style, but it is still good and creamy. I was pleasantly surprised by this beer. Apparently it’s not one of their mainstays so we’ll see if I can ever try it again.

Black color with lasting tan head. Chocolate syrup, deep roast, pale malt aromas. medium body, soft carbonation. Semi sweet chocolate flavors with dark roast malt, coffee-- lasting chocolate finish----good.
