COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barney’s Market Club occupied our space for 7 decades serving big steaks and strong drinks to some of Chicago’s most influential and colorful citizens. This IPA is brewed and dry-hopped exclusively with Cascade hops.

16 oz draft poured on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a nice glowing orange amber, some golden sunfire drenched in with an ok haze, a cakey offwhite leaning towards tan head stays moderate sized and laces well. Aromas are blasts of grapefruit and gumballs, lemon, and melon. The Cascade shines through with the bite of citrus, touches of cantaloupe, bready and toasty malts, pale malts, a touch of richer toffee sneaks in. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, maybe getting closer to lighter bodied with a sturdy blast of bitter hops up front. Florals and touches of pine move into more gentle but still potent grass, lemon rind, and melon fruitiness. Bready and toasty malts don’t get too heavy, in fact, remain quite light, perhaps a bit biscuity. Really a moderate bitterness clings, a bit sharp, piney and floral, the fruitiness sticks to the backend and doesn’t get very citric, some orange and lemon move in, touch of juicy grapefruit, instead concentrating on a gentle melon and earthy florals and grass. It’s fresh, it’s bitter, and isn’t heavy.. But lacks complexity (as a single hop beer might be). Still, Cascade does a good job and provides some interesting parts of my experience.. And if you are going to single hop a beer, this isn’t a bad hop to do it with. I liked it, if a bit light on body it drank easy and provides sufficient bitterness, maybe a little over the edge even for the girth of the beer. Nice.

Haymarket yes sir senator... Pours a mostly trans apricot orange brown pour with a frothy milky white head... Fresh citrus and lightly tropical fruit hoppiness, hazy yeas on the backend... Sweet upfront and through the middle with citrus and tangerines while finishing on an earthy slightly bitter bent. Carbonation is active with a medium body. lively overall but packs a decent hoppy punch. 8/4/7/3/14

Draft at Haymarket. Pours a pale bronze with a sticky head that lasts to the bottom. Nose is full of Cascade hops and maybe a hint of a cheesey butyric acid note. It’s hard to tell as it goes in and out. Quite citrusy and floral. Some mild malt notes in the background as well. On taste, firm bitterness and tons of hops. I’m wondering if the hops have degraded a touch because I’m getting that old-Cascade note to this beer. Still, a very solid and well structured IPA.

draft. pours gold with white head, nose has juicy fruit, citrus. flavors are juicey citrus orange peel and grapefruit. really great fresh hop flavors. body is just a tad heavy to make this sessionable.
