0.355l can from my secret Santa 2012. This is a light cloudy deep dark chestnut-red one with a nice almost creamy looking medium sized top. On the nose it’s both spicy with caramelized pickled ginger, sweet caramel, and hoppy with a nice dark fruitiness. It smells almost a bit Christmassy, and definitely interesting. It’s somewhat average on the carbonation and it has a soft oily mouthfeel. More bitter than I would have imagined. Dusty straw, traces of licorice, dark slightly burned bread and a bit medicinal in the finish. Loads of things going on in this little puppy. Bitter, zesty and lingering slightly burned spicy aftertaste. I’m not quite sure, but I think I’m starting to enjoying this. 23.12.2012

Poured from a 12 ounce can thanks to lukaduke. Love the can. Pours a semi-hazy amber color with a a large, velvety head of beige foam. Very good retention. The aroma has a good bit of rye influence with a nice citrusy hop profile. Taste has a fruity sweetness with a nice orange peel bitterness riding atop a mellow oaky note. Bitter on the back of the tongue.

Bottle. Pours a deep red with a 1/2 inch of fluffy head. Aroma is spices and hops. Flavor is Christmasy spices, some bitter hops and some fruit and bread in there as well. Not my kind of beer, but its well done.

Pours hazy amber into a shaker. Off-white head with good retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Resin and spice aromas. Full with sweet caramel and resin upfront turning dry in the vegetal spice finish. Becomes a little harsh as it warms.

12oz can pours a translucent garnet amber with some creamy, thick beige head. Nose is a little dusty, flower pollen, flaked wood chips, almost saw dusty, a little windex. Flavor is sweet, caramel, a little stale hops, saw dust, some lemon, orange, pine wood. Medium bodied, sweet, lightly astringent finish.

12oz can thanks to jslot38. Pours a full haze deeper red with billowing beige foam. Great retention and spotty lacing. Nose is sweaty, strawberry, unsweetened tea, moving to sharp acetone, some lemon soap. Taste is bland, chalky, minerally with some astringent bitterness. Strange. Can’t even place a beer style on this one.

12oz can into a switchback pint. Pours a dark orange brown/red with decent foamy head to cover. Aroma is spicey, bourbon aged, and malty. Taste is spicey, excitingly so as there seems to be so much bouncing around, as is the pepper, citurs, oak charateristics, and the hop presence. Almost too much though for a harvest, I dont think I was ready for all of this. But after endulging this seems to be just fine by me. Baxter is one of the next up and coming micro brews out of Maine. A fine brew here.

From 12 oz. can into a lager glass. Nice presentation. Deep amber color with persistent carbonation that produced a cap of thick ¼ inch white head. Nose has fresh, vibrant hops with some fall-type spices. Flavor has a bit of graininess with decent amount of malt, followed by the spice mixture and rounded out with mild pine bitterness. The bitterness is almost IPA in nature. Malt and spice make it balanced well enough. Overall it has nice drinkability.
