JHunter (242), British Columbia, Canada Aug 18, 2006 bottle pours a small creamy head with a nice goldish hew, a good taste sorta a gritty bitter with a smooth after taste and left a nice lacing down the glass. a very enjoyable beer will try again jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 13, 2006 Orangey yellow body, with a small white head. Grassy hops in the aroma. Light bitterness, grassy hops and grainy malt. Average palate. Not as good as the pale ale. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Aug 5, 2006 Bottle from Len. Thanks! Pours out a little darker brown than Im used to for the style. Taste is sweet and freshing, some hops, little heavy on the malt for me. Pretty refreshing, maybe a little too light on the carbonation. Not as good as the blond beer out of the can I just drank. Interesting twist on a helles though. Thanks! LordBeamish (144), Boozetown, Ontario, Canada Jul 29, 2006 Updated: Aug 21, 2006650 ml bottle: Yum! Poured out an orangish/gold with little head. Amazing flavours going on in this one: malty, yet fruity and sweet all at the same time. Very mellow hops make this a tasty surprise. pintbypint (1002), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jul 28, 2006 650 ml brown bottle. Poured deep gold, small creamy white cap. Seems to be a slight haze. Malt aroma, slight flowery hop hiding beneath. Malt flavour, late hopping. Long malt hop finish with a touch of bitterness. Light body and carbonation, pretty drinkable. KingofCastle (202), London, Ontario, Canada Jul 24, 2006 Updated: Mar 20, 2007650 mL bottle. Golden amber/orange colour with thin head. In style of dortmunder/export @ 5.5%. It calls itself a Munich lager so it should be leaning towards malty sweetness, and this one does (but there is some ingenious use of hops which really gives it a nice mellow bite). I might have had a less than fresh bottle from the LCBO but I see where this is going: well-balanced with a slick, sweet, almost citrus or spicy taste and not too bitter on the finish. This has a real malty presence but the slight sweetness gives it a nice long finish which isn’t overly bitter. Really well-made beer: mix it up & get this instead of your normal lager. Reminds me of really fresh Steam beer. This beer is so well crafted you can taste it for a while after you are done, and it tastes really "wet" (you know what I mean) which you can’t say for every lager out there. This is just a different level of lager that most wouldn’t be exposed to, an impressive lager really. Slightly increased alcohol content without ruining the over-all taste, brilliant. Boutip (2334), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jul 24, 2006 Bottle: Poured a light yellow color lager with a big foamy head with average retention. Aroma of dry malt is quite accentuated with very little hop. Taste is also dominated by dry malt with some very subtle lingering sweetness. Body is slightly above average. Would have love a bit more floral aspect to the malt as well as some crisp hops. Overall this is an OK beer but I was expecting a bit more. dirkules (613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 19, 2006 Golden body -- thin soapy head. MALTS! lots of them, over a sweet head and a sharp after taste. Flowery and smooth. Nice, cool, fresh. Surprisingly good but I’ll need to have a few more D/Helles before I can truly compare. For now I’ll give it a safe rate due for a re-rating in the future.
