3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MiP (11783) - Sønderborg, - OCT 17, 2010
Draught at the brewpub. Lagery aroma, a bit of chalk. Clear light amber colour. Very small white head. The flavour starts off tart, turning more malty and slightly aniseedy in the finish.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Cletus (6064) - Connecticut, USA - JUL 1, 2011
Draught sample. Pours gold with a white head. Smells floral and earthy. Tastes earthy with a caramelly. Didn’t detect anything Belgian here.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 ben4321 (2227) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - APR 18, 2010
Location: On tap at the Brewery - Union Square, 3/23/10
Aroma: Nose is Belgian yeast and spice with some underlying notes of corn and caramel malts
Appearance: Pours a hazy orange color
Flavor: The familiar Belgian yeast flavors dominate the sweet corn/malty flavors
Palate: The body is light-medium with an overly fizzy mouthfeel that detracts from the beer
Overall Impression:
This one is definitely better then the normal Cornhusker lager, but it still isn’t so great. The spice and flavors from the Belgian yeast are definitely an improvement on the recipe, but the over-carbonation is still an issue, and the beer itself still isn’t really that great.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 rugbydude05 (471) - Bridgewater, NJ, New Jersey, USA - MAR 26, 2010
Pint on tap at 51st. Hearty golden appearance, a little hazy, minimal head and moderate lacing on the glass. Aroma is sweet like a gumdrop with a little floral hoppiness to balance it out. Taste is sweet as expected with a little sourness and bitterness noted as well. Palate is great with high carbonation present and a moderate to full body. Nice crisp aftertaste and overall a good belgian ale. Really a lot more complex flavor than most other Heartland brews.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Jow (905) - New York, USA - MAR 18, 2010
Grabbed at lunch on beautiful March day. you can tastes the hints of corn and yeast. Its got good carbonation however, I feel a little heavy handed on the nutmeg.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 blipp (3920) - Newark, New Jersey, USA - MAR 10, 2010
Draft. Pours hazy orange with a white head. Floral yeasty aroma with some spicy notes and a light sweetness. Being a pretty bland base beer, this ends up showcasing the yeast really well. Spicy and floral with a light malty sweetness. Enjoyable, easy to drink, and very sessionable.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 tgncc (1919) - Bellmore, New York, USA - MAR 6, 2010
I added this beer, and call it a belgian ale, due to the fact that it appears to be their Cornhusker Lager formula, with the only difference being the yeast used to ferment the beer. The aroma is spicy, yeasty, and has the familiar corn and malt aromas of the pale lager on which it is based. The appearance is a hazy orange, almost brown, with a white head (in contrast with the standrad cornhusker, a clear pale yellow). The flavor is spicy, yeasty, peppery, coriander, sweet malt. The finish is peppery, spicy. Medium in body, slick texture. It more or less comes out like a belgian, with only ther fainest hints of what the base beer had been originally. Decent for what it is.
