tgncc (340), Bellmore, New York, USA Sep 24, 2008 This is a great beer, maybe the best ever served at Heartland. The bourbon casks impart a nice sweetnees and smoothness to what it just ordinarily an acceptable oatmeal stout. The aroma has nice notes of vanilla and bourbon, which complement the roasted coffee, chocolate and other aromas. The flavor definitely improves from the addition of the bourbon, lending it a sweeter and morwe alcoholic character. The vanilla is very pronounced in this as well. The finish is still roasty, but with a nice alcohol warming. Beautiful beer. This is a b1tch to find; it appears in various Heartland establishments from time to time. Well worth the effort to find it, though.
Aurelius (2517), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 9, 2006 Nicely balanced, no real prominent bourbon. Chicory, nuts, char witha a long finish. Lightly sweet, lightly tart. Pretty decent. dwyerpg (2143), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jan 2, 2006 This is Heartland’s Farmer Jon’s Oatmeal Stout, only after aging in Bourbon casks. Suprisingly, the smell isn’t that noticeable. More suprisingly, the effect of the bourbon casks on this beer is extremely noticeable and profound. The bourbon comes through quite nicely and solidly. Also, the beer loses its light feeling and gains the heavier weight found with most stouts. Almost as good as the original, but quite different throughout.
