Papsoe (11076), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 16, 2005 (On tap) Oatmeal Stouts are not that common, but the Heartland Empire makes a very decent version. Almost black with a slight reddish tint and a refined, light-brown Guinness-like head. Smoked but actually pretty light in body without a very prominent hoppiness. Pleasant and easy to drink. Has won several prices - deservedly. Oakes (7032), Miami Beach, Florida, USA May 22, 2001 Reeeaaalllyyy smooth. I mean, thick, creamy - the flavours are pretty good, and well-structured, but the fat, natural body is what makes this one of the better oatmeal stouts around. There aren’t a lot of great beers in NYC, but this is prime stuff. argo0 (6289), Washington DC, USA Oct 19, 2008 (draft, 43rd St) Large beige head atop clear red-black body, nice lacing. Aroma is medium sweet, chocolate, roast. Taste is medium sweet, chocolate, some oatmeal, light roast, cola. Smooth medium body. fiulijn (6010), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Jan 9, 2007 Draught at the brewpub, Radio City
Black color. Aroma of roasted malt. Good body, malty, creamy, with good roasted malt and caramel, lightly cheesy. Quite strong bitterness. Rastacouere (5418), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Aug 20, 2004 Pitch black pour, sticky light brown head recedes to a film. Very approachable aroma comprising coffee grains, grainy oat chunks and bready malt flavors. Nice malt bill, not too sweet and expressive on the oatmeal. Mild brown sugar flavor makes the second half a bit sweeter. Smooth roastiness. Not so big body, very smooth anyway. Terribly drinkable. You could hit several pints before getting tired. Much famed and probably deserving so with me ejoying it while not being big on sweet stouts, although I’m a fan of oatmeal.
