on tap at the union square. Deep rich clear red amber. Aroma was medium hops som malt and a bit of grapefruit. Tsate was in three stages, strong caramel that melded into a toffee and then finished with a hint of grapefruit at the end, with the aftertaste lingering for a minute or two.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
All the Heartland beers I have sampled were on draught at the Heartland Brewery Chop House in Times Square, New York. As well as the beer they also do great food! Deep red copper hue with an off white head. Strong hoppy aroma. Nutty flavour with citrus undertone and a medium length finish.

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Draught, at the Heartland Brewery, Union Square, NY.</br> Deep amber colour, lacy bone coloured head. Aniseed aroma and flavour are back with a vengeance. At this point I start to worry that its my palate or something I ate. A quick rinse of water, stout, then water confirmed my palate to be functioning correctly. Then I thought it was possibly the glassware? Nope, not that either. A fresh set of beers in new glassware confirmed the sickly taint still to be there. So it’s either something systematic in the washing of the glasses or there is something wrong with the beer &/or its distribution system. What ever it is, the brewery is serving poor beer at the moment. Subsequent investigation later on my tour of duty found this to be the case. The lads at Heartland have scaled up into a consolidated brewery in Green Point, Brooklyn, where they appear to be having some trouble and have put out a few calls for help!?

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark cherry cola appearance, little to no head. Smells of red fruits, raspberry jam meets crystal malt, though quite drier than that sounds. Opens up with a spritzy/fruity sweetness. typical crystal malt papery/dry finish, with some almost metallic tones. Still, the hops are there and the malt tastes quite good for most of the beer. Body stands up and is medium. As it warms and breathes texture becomes creamy. Theres something good about this beer that dosent translate well to ratings.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Little fruity with caramel. Little grassy and moderate body. I really didn't think too much of this beer, it kindof got lost in the little wheel-of-beer they brought me.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Gentle, mildly malty, though bland without a distinguishing feature in any dimension. (on tap, Heartland Brewery, Union Square West, NYC)

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Light red-auburn. Not much nose, some malts. Very malty brew with a nice, caramel-sugar sweetness. Echo a previous rater's comment of being like cola, but had no problems with the carbonation at all, thought this had a nice, full, round palate.
