3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
sample: definitely better than anticipated, thought this would have been lifeless. The brew’s got all the usual pumpkin pie ingredients in taste and nose. The body is very thin while making it very drinkable, for this style particularly weak.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Draught at blind tiger in NYC. Copper pour with a thin off white head with little lacing. Aromas of Cotten candy and clove. A nutty taste up front quickly gives way to cloves and nutmeg. There is a persistent underlying pumpkinness, but it’s more old pumpkin pie than fresh pumpkin. The beer has a somewhat unpleasent lingering bitterness.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: SEP 27, 2009 Seen ads for this sucker all over the city on phone booths and such. The guy with 2 teeth freaks me out. Tried on tap at empire state location. Pour is a copper amberish with some collective white head atop. Decent amounts of nutmeg and cinnamon spice. Wasn’t lacking in flavor as I expected. Body could have been a bit meatier but over decent.

On tap at Empire State Building.
Sure there is fruitiness, but they have also used the whole spice rack, which is too much for me. I will never be a strong pumpkin ale fan!

Heartland Smiling Pumpkin Ale is a clear orange color with a small, orange-tinted head. The aroma is light and non-deScript while the flavor is also lacking in character.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at brew pub. Outside on a nice evening any decent beer is refreshing. Even if it is a style you are not fond of. The lack of flavor might actually be a plus for this beer making it very drinkable.
