2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Cletus (6187) - Connecticut, USA - OCT 2, 2007
Growler. Pours copper with a thin off white head. Smells of pumpkin spices, some honey, hints of pumpkin mash. Tastes watery and more or less devoid of anything pumpkin. Not worth it.

Sampled on tap at the brewery on 51st Street. The aroma was nice, but too faint. I did pick out a lot of spices, like cinnamon, and there was a good brown sugar type pumpkin smell. Appearance was perfect for this type of beer: a rusty-orange color that was not completely clear and had a big, creamy, off-white head. The flavor was good and full of pumpkin, cinnamon, honey, and spicey flavors. It did well on the palate as it was delightfully creamy and had an active, fizzy carbonation. A bit dry at the end, but very smooth and silky. Overall it was a good seasonal brew, and well done, but not in the top tier of its style.

Tap at Union Square location: Pours orange/amber with a head that becomes a ring. Sweet aroma, seems buttery, with mild a allspice presence. Mild carbonation. Sweet, buttery malts start off the flavor, followed by a hint of festive spices (nutmeg/allspice). Seems artificial to me. Close to being decent, just gets a bit phony and astringent.

I like pumpkins and this one didn’t do it for me. Orange in color not much body. Aroma of some spice but not powerful at all. Taste is pretty bland especially for a pumpkin. Very light malt needs more flavor and body for me. Some clove and cinnimon but fades fast.

Jimmack ’07. This poured with a brown body and small head. Nose was pumpkin and spice. Tasted spices and a bit off. Generally I dont like pumpkin ales for this reason. Thanks for sharing.

Union Sq. Poured a clear orange copper color with a small off-white head. The aroma was of diacetyl soaked pumpkin. Light seasonal spice. The spices stood out more in the flavor then the diacetyl. Spicey almost tart finish.

The beer has the orange appearance of a pumpkin, and it’s actually appealing. The aroma is dominated by pumpkin, nutmeg and spice. The flavor is malty. with clear pumkin influence. Slight hop biterness on the finish. One of the better pumpkin ales.
1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 microakes (150) - CANADA - SEP 8, 2007
Orange- amber colour. White head. The taste is so heavy on the pumpkin I thought it was an unsweetened pimpkin lambic. I tasted none of the spice that’s supposed to be there, leaving just a flat pumpkin taste. I’ve had water with more complexity.

Draught at the brewery, Empire State Building NYC Light amber color. The aroma has some fruitness, light ginger and some cinnamon. Some good malt taste, some sweetness, light pumpkin, some cinnamon. Pleasant.

Sampler at the Radio City location. Love the artwork they put together for this one. Pours a translucent golden with an average creamy off white lacing head. Aroma of you got it...pumpkin pie. As the description states the standard ginger, cinnamon, allspice thing going on. I did pick up the honey in both the aroma and flavor though which was a twist since most pumpkin ales don’t tend to have that touch. Flavor was very up front pumpkin pie spices with a touch of hop bitterness. Decent pumpkin ale...but nothing ground breaking.
