We like to call this a Northwest Amber Lager, but it is often categorized as a Vienna style lager. The beer originally started out resembling a Steam Beer¯ style beer, but we’ve slowly been dropping the fermentation temperature to the point where it’s really just a lager beer, and too smooth, to fit that category. The color looks like a Vienna style lager, but the amount and type of hops, and the grain bill are quite different. We use Magnum and Cascade hops in this beer, and they blend well with the American (51%), German (43%) and British (6%) malts we use. The beer features strong hop character, along with smooth malt, caramel, and toffee flavors and aromas, with a refreshing bite in the finish. This beer goes really well with pulled pork and brisket. Bottle thanks to GT2. Amber colored pour, smallish white head. Nose and flavor show that it’s definitely an American hopped German style beer; more grass and light citrus bitterness than spicy, floral noble characteristics. Nice spicy, almost rye-like malt profile. Smooth and crisp. Very well done.

Bottle at home after a long day at work. Pour is clear amber with a fluffy off-white head and great lacing. Snappy, crackers, toffee, grassy, slightly fruity, husky, and caramelly aroma. Taste is chewy malt, toffee, cookie, light grass, slightly floral, slightly toasted cracker, and oranges with a crisp bitter finish. Light body with medium carbonation. Clean and easy drinking lager but not quite up to their pilsener’s standard.

Thanks to Eugene for sharing this. Clear amber, white head. Caramel, toast, biscuit. Light body, lively carb, short finish, crisp and flawless as Heater Allen is.

Beautiful amber with a white head. Aroma is more floral hop than I was expecting with light toasted malt. Some bread, and pine. Flavor is heavier on the pine in the floral notes, a bit of lightly caramel malt, toasted malt. A very hop driven Vienna Lager. Highly enjoyable beer but I could use a slightly stronger maltbackbone

22. Alright, this right here is a pretty serious effort at a California Common. Before we go any further, cheers to Heater Allen for that. Pours a hazy rubied medium amber with a dense, creamy tan head that fades quickly to a loose film and decent stringy lace. Gorgeous tangy hop nose, plenty of pine in there on top of a nice load of caramel. Creamy medium body with plenty of lively carb. Toast, caramel, biscuit, and pine on the mid palate, with a nice clean herbal hop wash for a finish, with a tiny bit of resiny linger. This might give Anchor Steam a run for its money, and that’s saying something.

cheers to Googzoid10 for the trade. pours nice copper, small white-off white head. aroma, nice malts, biscuity nose, pale malts and mild hops. flavors, malty, grainy, mild bitterness, malt profile comes out as not too strong but enough to help enhance the experience. Light bready/biscuit malts with moderate piney finish. Solid brew.
