3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 GreggG (19) - Spokane, USA - MAR 29, 2009
22 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark, almost black color with a thin tan head that quickly recedes to a small ring around the perimeter of the glass. Held up to a strong light, a dark ruby hue is exposed. The aroma is heavy on coffee, mocha, and roasted malt. Hints of vanilla and dark fruit are hidden in the background. The palate is dark roast coffee, chocolate, and heavily toasted malt. A delicious coffee flavor persists on the tongue, along with a slight bitterness on the back of the throat. This is a well done Baltic Porter - easy to drink and very enjoyable.

bomber - clear, dark brown with frothy brown head; chocolate, nuts, rich candy malt, licorice; quite sweet and thin bodied; smooth, almost oily at times; raw sugars and chocolate; amazingly uninteresting, but completely lovely at the same time
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 3fourths (6407) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - SEP 3, 2009
Bottle. Clear brown, light tan head, doesn’t last long. Nose: toffee malts (munich?), cake/fudge/chocolate, light oxidation, light mineral/metal note, but overall the nose is rich, toffee-centered and inviting. Body is medium to light, dissolves in the finish. More of the minerally/metallic character shows up, still chewy, slightly sweet, little bit of roast at play. Close to being really delicious.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 neepsntatties (761) - Portland, Oregon, USA - FEB 27, 2009
UPDATED: NOV 19, 2009 This is a re-rate! I bought some bottles of this in January of ’09 and recently had my last bottle. Colour... very dark brown with no head. Nose... very mallty and roasty with lots of vanilla character and milk chocolate to back it all up. Not as coating as when I had it last January. Some nice caramel, toffee and cafe au lait flavours. The "Paws" has lost some flavour complexity since last winter, but still an enjoyable tipple!
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 bvc (1004) - Kenmore, Washington, USA - FEB 18, 2009
22oz bottle from DA. Pours a deep and dark, almost black, brown with light tan head that dissipates rather quickly to just a small ring around the edge of my glass. Nose smells of roasty malt and sweet coffee. Body is fairly light and has quite a bit of carbonation going on. Taste is semi sweet up front and roasty throughout. Does finish with some bittering hops at the end but nice coffee flavor is what stays in my mouth. Just like the other Heater Allen beers I have had, this one is well done and a easy drinker. Thanks for sending me this one Derek.
