"Scots Pine Ale"
Introduced by the Vikings, spruce and pine ales were very popular in the Scottish Highlands until the end of the 19th century. Many early explorers, including Captain Cook, used spruce ale during long sea voyages since it prevented scurvy and ill health. Shetland spruce ale was said to "stimulate animal instincts" and give you twins. Alba is a triple style ale brewed to a traditional Highland recipe from Scots pine and spruce shoots pickled during early spring.Pure malted barley, is boiled with the young sprigs of pine for several hours then the fresh shoots of the spruce are added for a short infusion before fermentation.
A tawny brown strong ale with spruce aroma, rich malt texture, complex wood flavour and lingering finish.
Best drunk at room temperature from a wine goblet as an after dinner digestive.

Pours a hazy amber orange with with a foamy white head and good lacing. Sweet aroma of toffee and banana with some spruce and spice. Flavor is sweet, fruity and spicy like cinnamon apples and bananas with a hint of spruce. Toffee malt sweetness with some nutmeg. Medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and light carbonation. A surprising ale. Much sweeter than expected and fruitier. A little too sweet for me but still enjoyable. Would go well with a fruit dessert like an apple pie. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear orange color, medium head. Weak sweet malty and yeast aroma, along with raspberry and resin. Taste medium sweet, low bitterness at finish. Some herbal, pine and bread notes in flavor.

Bottle marked 12/10. Pour is decadent: cloudy orange-brown with white head and lace that vanished. Smell is fruits, berries, pine, alcohol, yeast and wheat. Tastes similar to a starburst. I imagine it’s the sugars that have been fermenting for too long.

Pours cloudy burnt amber with frothy off-white head. Lots of trub and sediment. Aromas of malt, yeast, oak, and pine. Flavors of sweet malt and yeast. Slightly dry and pine sap finish. Medium mouthfeel. Very drinkable, though not complex. Akin to a heavy dunkel. --- Cheers

Bottle, 16C. Amber with less than a coat of beige head. Aroma of honey, bread, pine, herbs. Medium bodied, low carbonation. Sweet toasty and honeyed, apricots, some lemon, complex medicinal and woody notes. Mellow digestif sort of a beer that’s quite interesting but maybe a little well mannered.

Fruity aroma immediately reminding me of certain Belgian yeast characteristics. Perfectly clear amber in appearance. Taste is malty bready sweetness. Herbal notes come in at the end. Not a bad beer at all, but nothing to write home about either.

Aroma: Medium-light wood, forest, Light spices, malt sweetness. Appearance: Body: Clear, amber. Head: almost none, tan. Flavour: Medium-high woody, pine, medium herb (spruce?). Medium bitterness. Light malty. Dry, herb-like finish with lingering flavours. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body, Medium-high, creamy carbonation. Overall: Very nice. Strong flavours and aromas, but not overpowering. Good malt support. I would bring the body up a bit, to balance the herb dryness. 330 ml bottle, poured. Thanks Andre! 23. Specialty Beer
