DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA Jun 28, 2005 Pop the cap and it smells like a pine forest.Poured brown with a small head.Flavors of nuts and pine.It was like i was licking the floor of the forest. It was average. The finish was piney. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Jun 25, 2005 Hazy ruby-mahogany, thin off-white head. Nose pine, toffee, butterscotch, some yeast and spice. Not the flavor I was expecting, sort of a fig/berry thing going on, kind of sweet, some yeast, bit of woodiness, then a bit of pine. Odd stuff. brentfeesh (1030), Gadsden, Alabama, USA Jun 23, 2005 Best before 4/2005. Pours a murky brown-amber color, with some chunks. A strong sweetness greats your nose (and not is the best of ways). Fruit, cotton candy, and caramel mostly (all crammed together). I suppose you could say spruce but that’s only an afterthought. Alcohol also. Very odd. The flavor is syrupy caramel and flat cola flavors. Pine is an afterthought/taste. No hop presence. Negligible carbonation and a thinner body than I expected (I thought it would be chewy-not watery). All and all this was not a pleasant brew. I felt cheated by the concept of the pine (which was not present) and the execution of the overall beer was poor. A conglomeration of nastiness. jasonp (1504), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Jun 22, 2005 Pours a slightly cloudy amber red with a thick off-white head. Aroma of berries and a hint of pine. Flavor has notes of tropical fruits, strawberries, cherry, apple, berries, cinnamon and a tiny bit of pine. Pleasantly sweet, not really any bitterness. Alcohol content very well-hidden. Pretty complex. Medium body, very smooth texture with very subtle carbonation. Good head retention. Neat stuff. hezron (600), Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA Jun 22, 2005 A sweet mixture of caramel, maple and pine, then dried figs as it warms. Interesting aroma. Copper-amber with an inch tall, off-white head that things a little. Tastes just like red licorice! It is the dried fig with a pine twist. Sweet. Makes mouthes happy. Soft carbination, medium body, watery texture. I really enjoyed this one. Dixen (1465), Flagstaff, Arizona, USA May 29, 2005 Nose of pines, good sweetness, some alcohol. Borwn to dark red body, small white head. Has a werid bitterness from the pines, good sweetness. Interesting brew. Boutip (2334), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada May 20, 2005 Bottle: Poured a cloudy dark amber color ale with a medium head with minimal retention. Aroma is different then what I’m used to with some sweet beery-like notes and some pines is definitely identifiable. Taste is sweeter then expected with some pine flavour in the back. Generally a bit lighter then expected but still enjoyable. thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA May 17, 2005 This bottled brew marked best before 6/01 and served in a wine goblet poured a small sized head of quickly diminishing clear colored finely sized bubbles that soon faded to nothing. They left behind a hazy dark brown colored body. The aroma was mildly vinous like a wine with chocolate. The mouth feel was smooth initially mild and bubbly in its almost flat finish. There was a cough syrup note in the flavor that I did not care for. Otherwise it had a piny hop/strange brown malty taste that was just too weird for my palate.
