BeerAteHer (384), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA May 1, 2004 The head is extremely shallow and lacking in substance, totally gone within 1.5 minutes; however, this is the main negative and it’s compensated by the beer’s relaxing peaty/red color. The first whiff of Alba brought back memories of popping open a raspberry Bubs Daddy bubble gum stick. The raspberry flavor carries over into vague elements of pine come the second or third sip, and begorrah (is that a Scottish expression?), the pine taste and aroma come to dominate. The 7.5 percent alcohol content is fairly well masked due to the hops balancing factor and rich texture. I truly enjoy this beer -- I don’t know if they were trying to entice guys with a crush on Jessica Alba, but by all means try it in any case! steview (901), Los Angeles, California, USA May 1, 2004 thick, sweet nose - wine, forest. fizzy pour. white head that dissipates fast and into a thick white ring. pleasant colour: brown and orange, dark. red and orange highlight. mmm, interesting. this is pleasant. reminiscent of wine. the palate isn’t thin. it’s nearly syrupy, yet it’s not cloyish. the flavor is tame, but in a good enough sense - wood and grass, berry and honey. it’s not like a fine wine. this is beer, and that’s strange. unique! (oh, what spruce and pine? it's minute. so, don't get weirded out by that) MAP (1085), Lakewood, Ohio, USA Apr 20, 2004 Hints of raspbery and honey. Flavor is a nice smoother porter-esque feeling. Nothing too grand, ut still a decent brew.
maeib (4683), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Apr 19, 2004 Bottled. Glorious aroma of toffee, lemongrass and shampoo! (Am I really typing this?) The appearance is mid brown and there is no lasting head or lacing. Full creamy chewy flavour with hints of caramel and grass. A very good beer. BierBauch (639), Cape Coral Waterfront Wonderland, Florida, USA Mar 25, 2004 12oz Bottle Best before Jun '05Coppery amber color ale with a thick head of tight bubbles. Good retention. Unique aroma of pine and berries with some faint malt and a bit woody. Body is medium to full and smooth with a low carbonation. Flavor is also unique with spruce, wood, berries and a rich malt flavor. Overall this ale could be dangerous because it goes down so easy. Interesting but I'm not sure if it will be something I'd drink regularly. rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Mar 3, 2004 Candy sugar, sweet orange and port noise. Cloudy orange body with no head. Very mild citrus and sugar flavor. I can't really taste the pine in here. Crockett (904), Steelback County, Ontario, Canada Feb 21, 2004 Pours copper/amber. Creamy tall, off white head. Herb sweet, caramel aroma. Medicinal spice/herb first gulp. Mushrooms and earth immediately after. Wanders into a woody and slight smoke. Some lace lingers thoughout. Has alcohol warmth, but is extremely well hidden. Hints of burnt sugar. It has a spruce/pine aroma/taste. I don't know how much it needs. It definately fits the bill. Best out of the Heathers. By example: I liked it. JonR888710 (999), Cochabamba, Bolivia Feb 18, 2004 Looks and smells just like a Belgian triple. Color is medium brown with tones of purple and tan. Lots of sediment in bottom of glass. Head is thin, white and elegant- recesses to a fine crown atop the glass. Smell is rich in malt with dark cherries, plums, yeast alcohol, and of course, pine (imagine drinking this underneath the xmas tree). Taste is nice and smooth, not bullying. Tastes of fruits, yeast and alcohol up front, but there is another dynamic entirely: warm cedar, roasted wood, pine cones, pine needles. Aftertaste is trace alcohol, thick malt and pine. All in all, deliciously novel. Purchased at Whole Foods in Vienna, VA
