"Elderberry Black Ale"
Introduced to Scotland by Welsh druids in the 9th Century, elderberry black ale was part of the Celtic Autumn festivals when the "elders" would make this strong ale and pass the drink round the people of the village. The recipe was taken from a 16th Century record of domestic drinking in the Scottish Highlands. Elderberries were used for many natural remedies to cure sciatica, other forms of neuralgia, influenza and rhumatism as they contain tannins and fruit oils.
Ebulum is made from roasted oats, barley and wheat boiled with herbs then fermented with ripe elderberries.
A rich black ale with fruit aroma, silky soft texture, soft roasted flavour and gentle finish.
Recommended with stewed and baked foods.
Drink lightly chilled from a straight glass.

Very carbonated relatively thin dark ale. Fruity taste with hints of coffee and chocolate. Exotic and unique in its own ways. Worth the try!

Botlle. Pours a black color with some faint red notes with a forhty cappuccino colored head. Aroma is of roasted malt, chocolate and some faint elderberry. The flavor is very sweet and fruity with some elderberry at first, then you get the roasted malt along with some chocolate and the oat. The body is rather light with a dry mouthfeel yet creamy. But still the beer has a quite complex flavor. Overall the best of the Heather Ales. This reminds me a bit of a scaled down version Dark Horse Tres Buleberry Stout, just with elderberries instead of blueberries.

Pours a dark, dark brown with a quickly disappearing brown head. Aroma is smokey, roasted malt. Taste is smoke, roasted malt that overpowers the underlying delicate malt profile. Didn’t enjoy that much.

Warning! Early amateur rating! Thick smooth ale. Moderate carbonation. Quite smoky. Slighty fruity undertone. Soft, dry and slightly bitter finish. Okay.

Bottle. Sampler set. LCBO. Attractive pour, deep dark brown with ruby hue and thick tan head. Berry notes and sweet malts in aroma. Light bodied. Berries and roast malts in flavour. Best of sampler pack.

Poured into a mug. Appearance is a dark, dark brown with a thick tan head. Lacing is splotchy and tan. Aroma is of malts, dark chocolate, and bitter coffee. Taste is like bitter, black coffee and alcohol with a light chocolatey taste. Not a big fan of the alcohol taste but I can look past that. This beer reminds me a good bit of a porter on the verge of being a stout. Overall this is an alright beer, not great though.

Very dark red, almost black. Thin ring for head. Roasted touches, with a sweet after taste. Nice.

Bottle at Churchkey, shared with staff and two guys from Northern Ireland. Light bodied ale with plenty of roasted malts in the aroma and flavor, along with toast and bitter chocolate. Excellent, complex brew for such a light body.
