hogan873 (317), Joliet, Illinois, USA Aug 30, 2009 Absolutely gorgeous pour. Pitch black with a thick tan head that leaves heavy lacing. Deep malty aroma with malt, chocolate, and a hint of berries. Thick, creamy mouthfeel, much like a stout. Flavors of roasted malt, chocolate, and hints of coffee and berries. Very well balanced and easy to drink. smooch (95), Sylvania, Ohio, USA Aug 18, 2009 Not bad, not great. I don’t notice anything special about this until it got a bit warmer. I expected something from the Elderberry and when too cold there wasn’t anything. Pretty similar to the Shiner bohemian black lager without coming all the way from Scotland. gam (1068), brisbane, Australia Aug 16, 2009 Good tan head carb good aroma roasted notes, sweetness, malts floral,a coffee smell for some reason, oats.Flavour well a fruit or berry taste very plesant too, must be the Eldeberries, wine and raisin flavour there, roasted malts onthe togue, oats and barley, clever little Druids, tis plurry lovely de drink, finish roasted malt wine fruit, light bitter, very nice. NomDeBeer (399), Maryland, USA Aug 10, 2009 Pours black with a respectable head that does not last. Earthy aroma of roasted malt. Moderate carbonation with a soild full-bodied mouth feel. Taste is very stout-like; coffee, nuts, roasted malt, plus a fruitiness with touches of plum and cherry. Very drinkable and enjoyable. Great beer. Dredd (484), Ormond, Australia Aug 8, 2009 Delightful beer, pour is black with mocha head. Aroma is kind of blackforest cake, flavour is similar, chocolate, cherry, round roasted malts and finishes with a nice round flavour. very classy. topherh (892), Kearney, Missouri, USA Aug 4, 2009 Bottle pours black with a thin beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and a bit of fruit. Flavor is light roast, and coffee, definite fruity-berry flavor (elderberry?) and a lightly bitter finish. cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Jul 31, 2009 Deep black in colour with lovely bitter choclaty nose, Lovely sweet choclaty flavour with hint of burnt coffee...

It has a splotchy, dense, light brown head that has great retention and leaves thick lacing on the glass. It has a very strong roasted aroma with notes of coffee and chocolate. It’s medium bodied and smooth with a light, clean finish that’s a bit acidic. It tastes quite roasty and there’s a sharp, green bitterness that plays off that well. It’s mostly a coffee flavor, with notes of dark fruit and a dry red wine flavor at the finish. It’s unique and tasty.
