Can’t find the Elderberry but that didn’t matter. Lovely, didn’t notice the alcohoI but it hits you later. A medium-bodied tan head. Aroma of tobacco and anise. This tastes like the gluwein served at German Christmas markets. Very herby in both aroma and taste. molassesfan (201), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 11, 2006 Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of burned malt with elderberry and some tobacco undertones. Malty peaty flavor with elderberries fairly well pronounced. Dry bitter finish with some alcohol presence. Not bad but could show more presence of...elderberries. hammenlind (738), Sundbyberg, Sweden

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 11, 2006 These novelty Heather Ales were purchased strictly for that reason alone: novelty. And, well, good thing I didn’t have high expectations, although this one is better than that Elderberry Wheat Ale I just had. Poured dark brown color with reddish edges. Looked like typical Scottish ale with a small head and decent bubbly lacing. The aroma was of peat and smoke with a fruity sweetness, although I didn’t get any specific berry smells. Flavor was of roasted malts with some typical Scottish ale smoekey flavors. Finished with a sweetness that had a touch of I guess berries. Hard to call this a fruit beer, best classified as a Scottish ale with a touch of a berry fruit finish, but the smoke and roasted malts are most prominent. Mouthfeel was moderate for the style, thick overall. pinkzambia (989), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 10, 2006 Bottle: Black with creamy tan colored head. The aromas speak of ripe plums; rich and musty alcohol. There are notes of tangy berries in the taste as well as rich sweet flavors like prune juice with a little bitterness. Definitely different - like a cough medicine you can’t get enough of. The feel is pretty thin - overall, quite yummy. anders37 (4584), Malmö, Sweden

Roasted malty aroma with some hints of chocolate. Roasted malty flavor with some hints of elderberries. Roasted malty finish with some bitterness. duff (5474), Surrey, Greater London, England
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 6, 2006 Bottle. Nice, subtle roasted malt notes, with an lightly acidic, lightly vinous mouthfeel. Only slight hints of berrries. But if you had it blind, you may not pick out the berries. I thought this was a nice one.
