JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Nov 22, 2005 Chocolatey mahoganey color, soapy thin tan head.
Chocolatey wet dog aroma.
Better flavor… chocolatey blackberry stuff with coffee.
presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Nov 20, 2005 Very dark with a thin skiff and bubbles around the edges. Mild berry over malt aroma. Nice dusty malt and berry mix in the flavour. Both combine in a lasting finish. A trace of hop bitterness. Higher alcohol for a fruit beer although well hidden. JoshuaB (422), Detroit, Michigan, USA Nov 19, 2005 Deep ruby, almost black with some tannish head that recedes to a ring. Smells of sourness and light grapes, with some coffee notes. Flavor is initially tart and light fruitiness. Flavor then turns to a somewhat dry chocolate with berries and coffee flavor. The oatmeal does a nice job in smoothing out some of the initial tartness. Lighter in body, but very silky yet. Drink this very lightly chilled, something like 60 degrees. These guys always have some interesting tradional ales, of which I am very fond of. jon112981 (327), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA Nov 17, 2005 Bottle. A very black and bubbly pour. Tatses dry and chocolaty. Not a bad flavor but I expected it to be slightly sweeter. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Nov 15, 2005 Pours to a transparent dark brown body with a thin beige head. The aroma is strongly elderberries and blackberries. Some barley. The flavor has coffee and chocolate in it. Light elderberry. Can hardly taste that. The palate is average. Fits well. Overall, this could be construed as a stout. LePoopie (151), Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, USA Nov 15, 2005 coffee, black, aminimal head, lightly bitter, but overall non-distinct flavor, medium body, overall not bad, but it doesn’t strike me as anything special MIBRomeo (1962), Wisconsin, USA Nov 15, 2005 very dark pour small brown head some lace. smells sweetly of elderberry, blackberry hints of coffee and roasted malt. Dry palate some coating a bit thin. Dry cocoa light hop some bittersweet chocolate flavors some fruits as well.. Not to great. Pernille (518), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 30, 2005 (Bottle at Fynske Øldage) Black. No head. The elderberries are evident in both aroma and flavor. A mild beer with a slightly odd flavor. I love the brewery’s general concept though.
