FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 22, 2005 Updated: Jun 24, 2006I had this beer once about a year ago and do not remember being very impressed. I have not gone back to it since until now when curiosity got the better of me. I will not make the mistake of avoiding this one again. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this interesting brew pours a dark black color with a small tan head. The aroma is sweet malt, light berry and a hint of chocolate. The flavor is strong with roasted malt on the front and slides gently into a fine berry flavor accompanied by chocolate and coffee. There is a rather pleasant sweet roasted malt and fruit finish. The fruit is definitely noticeable but does not overpower this beer leading to a far nicer experience than you get with most fruit beers. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 13, 2005 Bottle, LCBO Giftpack Christmas 2004 (sampled April 2005). Deep black pour with red hints. Very small brown bubbly head that gave way before my first sip. Sour porter like aroma. Thin mouthfeel. Nice old style porter taste - wine like, sour, and bitter. Coffee and roasted notes as well. Some berry hints in aroma after sitting in my glass for about 20 minutes. Another interesting, original, and enjoyable brew in what has to be one of the best value/quality giftpacks we see in these parts. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA Apr 13, 2005 Very dark brown color with a thin and quickly dissapearing head. Sweet liquorish aroma with hints of roasted malts. Strong coffee flavor with hints of wine. Lingering sweetness at the finish. Very interesting beer. Seems much more like a stout not only in color but in overall taste. Boutip (2333), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Apr 12, 2005 Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a dark foamy head with average retention. I can only describe the aroma as a strange mix between roasted malt and semi-sweet fruit (kind of remind me of Weyerbacher raspberry impy stout). Taste is also a mix between the elderberry sweetness/sourness and the bitterness coming form the roasted malt. Overall, I would say that I enjoy this because it is out of the ordinary and that seems refreshing. albert007 (409), Penobsquis, New Brunswick, Canada Apr 10, 2005 April 3, 2005 - Clachaig Inn, Glencoe, Scotland - Dark with shortly lived head. Smooth drinking ale with roasted coffee-like aromas with hints of wine or brandy. Nice beer consumed in a beautiful highland setting. FezMonkey (268), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Apr 10, 2005 Jet black with a thick long lasting tan head. smells of roasted malt & berries. It tastes like a stount and i didn’t notice any berry flavor until afterwards. A good beer overall.
